This invention relates to receptacles, and has special reference to receptacles generally known as first-aid kits and the like.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved receptacle in the nature of a nrst-aid device adapted to be mounted in a convenient support specially provided therefor in an automobile or other vehicle, and to provide means for retaining the receptacle in proper position in the support and, at the same time, permitting the receptacle to be easily removed in case' of need.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved drawer receptacle adapted to be mounted in a. convenient specially provided support in an automobile or other vehicle, the interior of the receptacle being divided into compartments adapted, respectively, to receive and contain dierent articles needed for first-aid treat-Al 20 ment in case of accidents, to provide means for holding the articles in proper positions in the respective compartments, to provide means in the support for holding the drawer receptacle in relatively stationary position, and to provide an improv'ed approximately hermetic closure for the drawer receptacle.
Other objects of the invention will be readily apparent from the following description, reference being made to the annexed drawings, in which- Fig. 1 is a top plan view of the receptacle, the
.closure lid being in open position.

Fig. 3 is a. sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is an end elevation of the receptacle mounted in a support conveniently located on the instrument panel of an automobile.

Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the special support for the enclosure.
Fig. 7 is an end elevation of another form of receptacle mounted in a diilerent position.

Fig. 9 is an enlarged sectional view similar to Fig. 2 showing the latch device for holding the lid in closed position.
The support for the drawer enclosure receptacle, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6, is a supporting enclosure in the form of a box-like structure comprising a bottom wall I, a top wall 2, side walls 3 'and 4, an inner end wall 5 and a frame 6 attached to the' outer ends of said bottom, top and side walls. 'I'his box-like structure may be made of metal, as shown, or of other appropriate material, as desired. A notch I is formed in the outer end of the top wall 2 and is crossed by the frame 6. VAn inwardly curved spring 8 is formed in integral connection with the wall 4. As shown, the spring 8 may be obtained by splitting the metallic wall 4 to provide a tongue curved inwardly appropriately to form said spring 8.
This supporting box-like enclosure structure may be extended through an opening formed in the instrument panel 9, the frame 6 seating against the exposed surface of the instrument panel and rigidly attached thereto. If desired,
the metallic support may be welded or otherwise rigidly secured to the instrument panel.
The drawer like enclosure receptacle in this form of the invention comprises a bottom wall I0,'side Walls II and I2, a rear wall I3, a front wall I4 and a. front panel I5 attached to an extended portion I6 of the bottom wall I0 and separated from the front wall I4 by an intervening space I'I. Numerous compartments I8, I9, 20, 2I, 22, 23, 24, and 25 are formed within the drawerenclosure receptacle by partitions 26, 2'I, 28, 29, 30, 3|, and 32, and the respective compartment receptacles are designed and intended to receive and retain selected articles and medicaments for first-aid application and use in case of accident. The walls II, I3, and I4 are provided with rabbeted portions 33 to receive downwardly extended portions 34 along the ends and free edge of a lid 35 which is connected with the upper edge of the wall I2 by a hinge device 36. The lid may be swung from closed position as shown in Fig. 2, to open position as shown in Fig. 1, and vice versa. An angular spring comprising a portion 31 attached to theinner surface of the lid 35 and a downwardly extended portion 38 supports a detent 39 designed and adapted to engage in an opening 40 formed in the wall II to hold the lid securely in closed position to provide an approximately hermetic closure for the drawer compartment. A recess or notch 4I may be formed in the free edge of the lid 35 for manual engagement to open the lid when the detent 39 is pushed inwardly from the hole 40, which may easily be done, as should be understood by reference to Fig. 9. Instruments 42 and 43 may be mounted in supports 44 and 45, respectively attached to the inner side of the lid 35 for cutting bandages The inner end of the handle member 4B supports a latch member I1 in connection with the inner end thereof in the space I1 and is adapted to be extended into and removed from the notch 1. When extended into the notch 1, the latch l1 engages against the inner side of the frame B and thereby securely holds the drawer within the supporting enclosure.
The spring 8, by pressing against the adjacent side wall of the drawer, prevents the drawer from rattling and yet does not interfere with the proper inward and outward movements of the drawer.
In the particular construction shown', the compartment I8 has a number of clasps 48 attached to the bottom wall I0 therein adapted to engage the necks of bottles 49 mounted in the compartment Il.
In this form of the invention, the longitudinal dimension of the drawer is approximately horizontal. In'the arrangement shown in Figs. 7 and 8, the longitudinal dimension of the drawer is approximately vertical. As there shown, the back member 50 of a seat has a box-like support 5I mounted therein and provided with an outer frame 52. The box-like drawer 53 has its longitudinal dimensions approximately vertical in accordance with the longitudinal dimension of the box-like support 5I, and' is adapted to be fitted therein. The drawer 53 is provided with a hinged lidiil at its upper end and with an outer panel 55 having a handle 56 mounted therein and arranged similar to the handle 46 and for a like purpose. The interior of the drawer 53 may be divided into compartments in the manner already described to receive dierent articles for emergency and iirst-aid use.
It will be understood that one of the walls of the box-like support I5 is preferably provided with a spring similar to the spring 8 and for the same purpose.
The construction and arrangement of the de- -vice may be varied otherwise than as specifically illustrated.
1. A device of the character described -comprising a supporting enclosure, a receptacle mounted for sliding movements into and out of said enclosure and having a front Wall, a panel supported by said receptacle beyond and separated from said front wall by an intervening space, a holding device supported by said panel in said space, and means for operating said holding device into and out of engagementwith said supporting enclosure.
2. A device of the character described comprising a support, a receptacle having side Walls movable into and out of said support and one of said side walls having an opening therethrough, a lid hinged to the opposite side wall, a latch device attached to the inner side of said lid and adapted to engage in and be disengaged from said opening to latch and unlatch said lid respectively, and means for holding said receptacle in said, support.
3. A device oi' the character described comprising a support, a receptacle having side walls movable into and out of said support and one of said side walls having an opening therethrough,
a lid hinged to the opposite side wall, a latch' device attached to the inner side of said lid and adapted to engage in and be disengaged from said opening tolatch and unlatch said lidv respectively, means iorholding said receptacle in said support, and a spring mounted on said support and pressing against one side of said receptacle.
4. A device-of the character described comprising a supporting enclosure, a receptacle mounted for sliding movements into and out of said enclosure and having a iront wall, a lid for said receptacle having its front end seating on said front wall, a panel supported by said receptacle beyond and separated from said iront wall and said lid by an intervening space, a holding device supported by said panel in said space and forwardly beyond said lid, and means for operating said holding device into and out of engagement with said supporting enclosure.
5. A device of the character described. comprising a stationary supporting enclosure; amovable enclosure mounted for sliding movements into and out of said supporting enclosure and having a rear wall, side walls, and a iront wall; a panel supported by said movable enclosure be- 'yond and separated from said iront wall by an g movable enclosure beyon intervening space; and a lid for said movable enclosure having its front end seated on said front wall and concealed by said panel and having its rear end and sides seated on said rear wall and said side walls, respectively.
6. A device of the character described comprising a stationary supporting enclosure; a movable enclosure mounted for sliding movements into and out of said supporting enclosure and having a rear wall, side walls, and a front wall; a panel supported by said movable enclosure beyond and separated from said front wall by an intervening space and adapted to contact with the front of said supporting enclosure; and a lid for s aid movable enclosure having one side margin and its end margins adapted to telescope with one side wall and the end walls, respectively, of said movable enclosure.
7. A device of the character descrid cornprising a stationary supporting enclosure; a movable enclosure mounted for sliding movements into and out of said supporting enclosure and having a front wall; a panel supported by said and separated from said front wall by an intervening space and movable into and out of contact-with the front of said -supporting enclosure; and a latch device supported by one of said enclosures and being concealed in said space by said panel to hold said movable enclosure in closed position.
