Afurther object of the invention is to provide a device ofthe character described "which affords facilities for holding a window screen or,a storm window 1n place in 2l'Wl1'1ClOW frame releasably.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a device 'o'ffthe character described which embodies cooperative elements whereby a window screen or storm window of ,a given 'widthfmay be held releasably in ,place in any one'of a plurality of window frames whichmay vary slightly in .width.

In Figure 1, I show aQfragmentary lower corner portionof a -window frame 1 of ordinary construction. The window frame 1 is provided with the usual outer vertical guiding and retaining strips, such as that 1924. Serial No. 705,277

second flange of the bracket 5 is also cut away intermediate its ends as indicated at 11, the cut away portion thereof extending into the web of the bracket, leaving only end portions 12 and 13 respectively of the second flange, whereby the end portions of the bracket have the form of spaced apart aligned hooks.

The bracket 6 comprises a flat arm 1 1 adapted to rest fiatwise against the inner face of a side member of the frame 3 and to be secured to the latter by a bolt 15 which extends through an opening in the side member of the frame 3 and through an elongated opening or slot 16 in the arm 14 and a nut 17 which is screwed on the shank of the bolt against the arm 14. The bracket 6 also includes an arm 18 which extends substantially at right angles to the arm 1 1 and is bent laterally outward and thence rearwardly adjacent to its outer end to provide a hook portion 19. I

From the foregoing description of the various parts of the device, the operation thereof may be readily understood. The bracket 6 is secured by the bolt 15 and the nut 17 against the inner face of a side member of the frame 3 so that the arm 18 will abut the inner wall of the cut away portion 1.1 when the frame 3 is disposed in the window frame 1 with said one side member of the frame 3 adjacent the stop strip 2. lVit-h this arrangement, the bill of the hook portion 19 will be received in the cut away portion 10 of the bracket 5 and the hook portion 19 will be disposed between the hook portions at the ends of the brackets 5. Since the hook portion 19 is bent reversely to the ends of the hook portions at the ends of the bracket 5, the hook portion 19 and the hook portions at 12 and 13 will cooperate to provide a guideway in which the tapering or wedgeshaped fastening, tightening and locking key may be inserted to lock the bracket member 6 to the bracket member 5 and thus hold the frame 3 against displacement from the window frame 1. The tapering locking key 1 is provided at its wider end with a later ally turned portion 20 which is adapted to serve as a handle and may be conveniently grasped when it is desired to manipulate the locking key. It will be manifest that the engagement of the tapering locking key 4 with the bracket 5 and with the hook portion 19 of the bracket 6 will tend to cam these opposed members apart so that one side member of the frame 3 will be held tightly against the strip 2 and rattling of the frame 3 in the window frame 1 is prevented. As illustrated in Figure 3, the bolt 15 may have flattened sides as indicated at 21 and thus be adapted to engage with the side walls of the elongated opening 16 to prevent turning of the bolt 15 about its longitudinal axis inclependently of the bracket 6. A washer 22 is in place on the shank of the bolt 15 between the head 23 of the latter and the outer face of said one side member of the frame 3. The head 23 of the bolt 15 is provided with a slot 24 adapted to be engaged by the blade of a screw driver or like tool so that the frame 3 may be tightened against the strips 2 from the outer side of the window if required. To tighten the frame 3 against the strips 2 from the outer side of the window, the nut 17 is loosened slightly and the bolt 15 is turned slightly through the use of a screw driver, which will cause the bracket 6 to swing upward and will thus effect tightening of the frame 3 against the strips 2. The bolt 15 thus may be termed an auxiliary tightener. In adjusting the device, the nut 17 is loosened, the bracket 6 is moved transversely of V the direction of length of the bolt 15 to ad just the bracket 6 in respect to the bracket 5, the wedge shaped key is placed in position and the nut 17 is tightened until the frame 3 is secured firmly against the strips 2. The provision of the elongated opening 16 also permits movement of the bracket 6 transversely to the direction of length of the bolt 15 to an extent suflicient to adapt a frame 3 which carries the bracket 6 tobe secured in place within any one of a plurality of window frames 1 which may vary slightly in width and each be provided with a bracket 5 for cooperating with the bracket 6.

It will be obvious that two or more sets of the brackets 5 and 6 may be employed to secure the frame 3 in place within the window frame 1, the respective sets of brackets 5 and 6 being disposed at opposite sides of the window frame.

Obviously, my invention is susceptible of embodiment in forms other than that illu trated in the accompanying drawing and I therefore consider as my own all. modifications and adaptations of the form of the device herein described which fairly fall within the scope of the appended'claims.

I claim 1. A fastener for securing a window screen or storm window to a window frame comprising a bracket attachable to an outer vertical guide strip of the window frame, said bracket comprising a pair of spaced apart hook portions having the web portions thereof proximate to the adjacent face of a side member of the frame for said window screen or storm window, a second bracket attachable to said side member of the frame of the window screen or storm window and having a hook portion bent reversely to the hook portion of said first named bracket and disposed between said first named hook portions, and a tapering locking key insertable between the first named hook portions and the hook portion of the second named bracket,

A fastener for securing a window screen or storm window to a window frame comprising a bracket attachable to an outer vertical guide strip of the indow frame, said bracket comprising a pair of spaced apart hook portions having the Web portions thereof proximate to the adjacent face of a side member of the frame for said window screen or storm Window, a second bracket having an attaching portion adapted to rest fiatwise against said side member of the frame of the Window screen or storm window and having an elongated opening therein, a bolt insertable through said elongated opening and through an opening in the side member of the frame of the window screen or storm window, and a nut adapted to be screwed on the shank of said bolt against said attaching portion of the second named bracket, said second named bracket including a hook bent reversely to said first named hook portions, and a tapering locking key adapted to be inserted between said first named hook portions and the second named hook portion.

A fastener for securing a Window screen or storm Window to a Window frame comprising a bracket attachable to an outer vertical guide strip of the Window frame, said bracket comprising a pair of spaced apart hook portions having the web portions thereof proximate to the adjacent face of a side member of the frame for said Window screen or storm window, a second bracket having an attaching portion adapted to rest flatWise against said side member of the frame of the Window screen or storm window and having an elongated opening therein, a bolt insertable through said elongated opening and through an opening in the side member of the frame of the window screen or storm window, and a nut adapted to be screwed on the shank of said bolt against said attaching portion of the second named bracket, said second named bracket including a hook bent reversely to said first named hook portions,. a tapering looking key adapted to be inserted between said first named hook portions and the second named hook portion, said bolt being flattened longitudinally to engage With the side walls of the elongated opening. 7
