Description

J. MARKWICK. FOOD SAFE FOR WINDOWS. APPLICATION F|LED D EC.18 I919- Patented July 27, 1920.
I III 17/4 VI, 7 Z
c ajyz MZTZAMZ'K Ra anal/"W0 UNITED STATES JOHN MARKWICK, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
FOOD-SAFE FOR WINDOWS.
Applicationfiled December 18, 1919. Serial No. 345,690.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN MARKWICK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Vayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Food Safes for Windows; and I do declare the followingto be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in food-safes for windows and more particularly to a novel means for attaching the safe to the window-frame.
The primary object is to provide a' simple and practical means for attaching a food-safe to a window-frame without using nails or other fasteners which would have a tendency to mar the window-frame.
lVith the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts as will'be more fully described and claimed. I
I attain these objects by the construction illustrated in the drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional View showing a food-safe positioned in a windowframe;
of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Similar reference numerals designate similar parts throughout the several views.
Reference is now had to the drawing in which the food-safe is shown supported in a window-frame, said safe being of the usual or any preferred construction.
In providing a food-safe with this improved attaching means, .I first provide the end walls of the safe with transverse horizontally disposed bores 1, said bores opening through the vertical edges of the end walls 2 adjacent the open side of said safe. Formed on the inner faces of the end walls is a pair of recesses each of which extends across the bore in the end wall.
A pair of vertically disposed cleats 3 iscleat is provided preferably near the upper end with a transverse slot 4 through which is passed a bolt 5 whose inner threaded end is adapted to be received in the adjacent bore 1 to secure the cleat to said adjacent end wall. In order to provide a positive connection between each cleat and the adjacent end wall a nut6 is positioned inthe aforesaid recess and is non-rotatably mounted on the threaded end of the bolt 5. Disposed beneath the head of the bolt 5 is a washer 7 which prevents said head from passing through the slotin the cleat 3.
From the foregoing description it is readily seen that when a food-safe is to be mounted in a window-frame the bolts are loosened and the cleats may then be moved inwardly toward each other to permit proper positioning of the food-safe, after which said cleats maybe moved outwardly and projected into the outer window-sash guideway of the window-frame. The bolts are then turned to tightly secure the cleats against the end walls of the food-safe and the parts are positively held in the position illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawing.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented July 27, 1920, 7
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing,
the construction and operation of the inven- I tion w1ll be readily understood Without re- Fig. 2 is a sectional View on the line 22 quiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion,
and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the claimed invention. 1
I claim A food safe having end walls cut from their inner faces to provide fastener receiving pockets and bored from their edge faces to provide bolt receiving passages intersecting the fastener receiving pockets, securing strips engaging the edge faces of the end walls and having transversely extending slots, securing bolts extending through the slots of the strips and through the passages of the end walls to slidably connect the strips with the end walls for movement transversely thereof, and securing nuts posiv tioned in the fastener receiving pockets and engaging the bolts.
In testimony whereof I havehereunto set my hand.
J OHN MARKWICK.
