Description

s. 03TH. Meuk-'Tie Boxes.
N0.54,274. Patented Aug.18,1874,
fed.
UNITED STATEs PATENT OFFICE. n
SAMUEL ORTH, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN NECK-TIE BOXES.
Speciiication forming part of Letters Patent No. 154,274, dated August 18, 1874; application filed July 6, 1874.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL OETE, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boxes for Holding Neck-Ties; andI do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to that class of boxes used for packing neck-ties; and the nature of my invention consists in attaching to the hottom and to the inside of the lid of said box,
Y cards slotted at their ends for holding one or more neck-ties, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a plan View of an open box embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same when closed. l
A represents the body, and B the lid of aV paper box of any suitable dimensions, and constructed in such a manner that the lid, when open, will rest fiat the same as the body or main part ofthe box, 'which is accomplished by leaving the` back of the box free from the ends thereof'.
vOn the bottom of the box-body A is secured a card, C, by gluing or otherwise, as desired, in such a manner as to leave the edges of the card free. In these edges are made slots a a, at suitable distances apart.
On the inside of the lid B of the box are secured, in like man-ner, a series of small cards, D, the ends of which are left free, and 1n each end is made a slot, a.
These cards .are for holding neck-ties by the insertion of the ends of the neck-tie shields through the slots. It is of course evident that one or more cards may be used both on the bottom of the box and on the inside of the lid, as may be desired.
I am aware that neck-ties have been attached to loose cards, and such cards packed in paper boxes; and I do not, therefore, claim such as my invention.
By the old method the neck-ties will invariably be more or less injured by being rubbed together, and also often soiled in taking the cards out of the boxes.
By my invention of permanently attaching the cards in the middle to the inside of the box, it protects the neck ties from being rubbed together, keeps them from being soiled, and in their place.
The box may also be used as a show-box, and will display the ties to better advantage.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a paper box provided with slotted cards permanently attached in the middle to the'bottom or lid thereof, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
