HARRY A. MYERS, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO GEORGE A REACH, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
'BASEBALL GLOVE.
Application filed May 9,
certain new and useful Improvements in Baseball Gloves, of which the following is a specification. Y
My present invention relates to improve- Rments in baseball gloves and aims to provide a construction which W111 be more durable, in that additional strength is given to the crotches of the finger portions and support is provided for the crotch even 1f the machine stitches break.
The invention includes the novel construction hereinafter described and defined by the appended claims.
In order that the invention may be more readily understood, I append hereto drawings illustrative thereof, in which Fi ure 1 IS a lan view of a blank used b P for making the palm portion of the glove.
Fl 2 is a face view of the )alm ortion of the glove in course of manufacture and before it is turned inside out.
Fig. 3 1s a similar view of the completed glove, after being turned.
'Fig. 4 is a detail of-a section through the crotch between fingers. Referring by reference characters to this drawing, the numeral 1 designates the palm portion of the glove, provided with the usual opening 1 for attachment of the thumb and with the usual finger extensions or portions, it being understoodthat the portions 1 form both the front and back, or in other 1924. Serial No. 712,008.
words, the complete little finger, as is customary. In forming this blank I so cut the material that an integral tab 1 is formed, projecting up between each two adjacent finger portions.
After the back forming portions have been stitched together in the customary manner, the tabs are turned down between the fingers and secured to the crotch forming portion or fourchette by fastening means such as eyelets 2. Thereafter the usual lining is applied in the customary manner and the. glove turned inside out. I
Experience has demonstrated that there is a tendency for the stitches to break or loosen at the crotch of the fingers, and I have found that by the use of reinforcing tabs ap plied as above described this tendency is materially reduced, and that even if the stitching does break, the glove at the point of the crotch will be held in proper position.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is: I
1. A base ball glove of the fingered type having closed finger crotches, said glove having a palm portion provided with integral tabs underlying and reinforcing the crotches and secured to the inside faces thereof.
2. A base ball glove of the fingered type having seamed finger crotches, said glove having a palm portion provided with inte-
