IMPROVEMENT IN CHAMBER-CASES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 154,140, dated August 18,1874; application filed July 27,1874.

a represents a frame or case,`of any suitable shape, just large enough to receive the chamber, and which is raised up above the iloor by the legs b. Through the top, just above the chamber, is made the holec, which is covered by the hinged cover d. The top and bottom parts of lthe frame are made of Wood, and clamped together by the bolts e, while the side is made of sheet metal, and through which side is formed a door for the removal and insertion of the chamber. In the frame is placed the movable bottom'g, upon which theA chamber rests, and under which is a coiled or otller spring, h, which holds the vessel up against the under side ot' the top of the frame. Around the hole c, on
the under side of the top, is placed a small rubber tube, i, which forms an airtight joint around the top of the vessel, and prevents any unpleasant odors from escaping into the frame and thenceinto the room. Attached 4 to the movable bottom g, by means of a connecti-ng-rod, j, is a lever, l, which is pivoted at one end to one ofthe legs b, extends across under the frame, and has a treadle or handle `formed upon its other end, by which the lever is operated. By bearing down upon this 1ever the vessel can be lowered so as to be no longer pressed upward against the top of the frame, when it can be readily removed or 'inserted. Adjustably attached to theunder side of the cover by means of bolts l and springs 2 is a perforated cup or vessel, o, in which a disinfectant is placed, and every time the lid is closeda portion of' the disinfectantis sprinkled in the vessel. The wooden rim, by means of which the cup is secured to the lid, is sufficiently thick to extend down through the hole c, and has a tube of rubber, 5, secured to its edge, which bears down upon the flange of the vessel and forms an air-tight joint for preventing' the odors from escaping into the room. By means of the springs 2 the rim is made adjustable, so as to lit chambers of dif ferent heights. Extending out from the side of the leg b, nearest to the treadle end of the lever, is a small catch, which holds the lever down, when so desired.
Instead of the lever here shown a screw may be used for the same purpose.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. The combination of the cover d, provided with the adjustable spring-disk and packing 5, with the bottom g and spring h, substan tially as set forth.
2. The lid d, adjustable spring-rim, provided with a packing, 5, and perforated cup o, the parts being combined as and for the purpose described.
