Description
W. S. HUNKINS PIN TUBE June 2, 192 5.
A Filed Jan. 20, 1925 INVENTOR ATTORNEYS Patented June 2, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM S. HUNKINS, 0]!
PIN
Application filed January To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WVILLIAM S. I-IUNKINs, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Los Angeles, California, have invented a new and useful Pin Tube, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a so-called pin tube, construction and to a combined pin tube tab end which may be conveniently secured to any garment. The object of the invention is to provide a construction by which a complete tab end including a tube may be economically produced in large quantities so that the same may be made and sold as units for easy attachment toany garment by the purchaser.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure l is a front View partly broken away and showing my invention as it would appear in use on a garment.
Figure 2 is a view of the inside of the tab with the tube secured thereto.
Figure 3 is a section on the line 06'Q3 Of Figure 2.
Figure 4: is a perspective View of the pin tube itself.
1 represents a rolled up sheet metal tube having a flange 2 along one side thereof. 3-3 are spurs formed integrally with the flange 2. 4 is a short strip of fabric with its side edges folded in as at i P so as to make the width of the fabric strip conform substantially to the length of the tube 1. The tube is attached to said short strip of fabric by causing the spurs 3-3 to penetrate the same as shown in Figure 2. The spurs preferably penetrate and are turned down on the two thicknesses of fabric formed by the aforesaid side folds, so that greater security will be provided on the one hand, while on the other hand, the spurs and the overlying part of the tube flange give permanence to said edge folds. The articles may be made up and vended in the form shown in Figure LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
TUBE.
20, 1925. Serial No. 3,566.
2. When a purchaser desires to apply one of these tabs to a garment, the strip is folded transversely around the tube portion 1 so that the latter will stand in the b ight of said fold as shown in Figure 1. The two ends of the strip are then secured to the garment 5 by means of stitches or other convenient fastenings.
From the foregoing it will be seen that said articles may be very rapidly and eco nomically produced in a form which lends itself admirably to packing and transportation. The form of the fastening 3 may be modified at will, the form shown being preferable.
I claim:
1. A pin tube tab end comprising a short strip of fabric, a sheet metal tube extending across an intermediate part of the same from edge to edge, a flange extending lengthwise of said tube, fastening devices formed integrally with said flange between the ends thereof, said fastening devices penetrating said fabric and being bent into holding engagement therewith.
2. A pin tube tab end comprising a short strip of fabricfolded along its side edges, a sheet metal tube extending across an intermediate part thereof from edge to edge, a flange extending lengthwise of said tube and integral fastening devices on said flange, said fastening devices penetrating the side folds of said strip and bent into engagement therewith to hold said fabric against said flange.
3. A pin tube tab end comprising a short strip of fabric having each side edge folded in to form a double thickness of fabric, a pin tube of sheet metal having a flange with spurs formed thereon, said spurs penetrating the two thicknesses of fabric at each side edge of said strip and being bent to secure said tube to said strip and to hold down said folds.
