G. H. wATsoN FINGERPRINTING DEVICE Filed May 5, 1924 WITNESS V l/VVENTH v .'r Gear e H Waisen; g2- Y 3y? A TTOHNEYS Patented May 19, 19.25.
UNITED gsix/tres GEORGE H. YVATSON, OF MEDINA, NEW' YRK.
FINGERPRINTNG DEVJCE.
Application filed May 5,
17 0 all whom if may concern:
Be it known that I., lGnonGn f1. iVa'rsoN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Medina, in the county of 'Qrleans and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Fingerprinting Device, of which the following' is a full, clear, and eX-Y act description.
This invention has relation to receptacles 0r containers and has particular reference to a finger printing' device.
The outstanding object of the present invention resides in the provision of a finger printing device in which an inlring pad and an ink eradicating element is housed whereby the user may, after the finger printing operation, readily remove the inlr stains from the fingers.
As a further object the invention contemplates as a new article of manufacture, a finger printing' device which includes a casing consisting of hingedly connected sections which respectively define compartments for an inking pad and for an ink eradicating element and which is provided with a hinged partition adapted to be interposed between the surface of the pad and the eradicating element when the casing sections are in closed relation.
As a still further object the invention comprehends a finger printing device of the character set forth which is extremely simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and which is highly efficient for the purpose for which it is intended.
lV ith the above recited and other objects in view, the invention resides inthe novel construction set forth in the following specification, particularly pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying' drawings, it being understood that the right is reserved to embodiments other than those actually illustrated herein to the full extent indicated bythe general meaning of the terms in which the claims are eX- pressed.
In the drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device in open condition.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view therethrough taken approximately on the line indicated at 2-2 in Fig. 1.
Referringl to the drawings by characters of reference, the case consists of a pair of box-like sections 1()` and 1.1 having' a closed end 12 and an open end 13, the said sections draft,

respectively defining compartn'ients within 'which an inlrinaY pad 1liand an ink eradicatingr element 15, are arranged. The sections are hingedly connected together at V16 adj acent one side at their open ends whereliiy said open ends may be swung into confrontingl relation to close the same. A partition member 17 is hinged to the hingedly connected portion of the sections 10 and 11 and is designed when the case is closed, to separate the confronting surface of the hiking; pad and eradicating element. The partition member preferably consists of a suitable absorbent material 18 which is saturated with a suitable liquid substance or composition for maintaining' the pad 14 and element 15 in a moist state. The sectiondlO is preferably provided with a ring 19 whereby the device may be attached to the free end of a watch chain. The sections are further provided with interengageable means 20 and 21 for retaining' the same in their closed relation when not in use.
When it is desired to use the device, the sections are swung to the open position illustrated and the thumb or fingers are pressed upon the surface of the inking pad 14 to imprint the finger prints upon a check, deed or legal paper, after which the ink remaining' is removed by rubbing the fingers over the surface of the eradicating element 15. When not in use the casing sections are closed, in which position the absorbent portion 18 of the partition member 17 is disposed between the confronting' surfaces of the pad and element 15. 1n view of the fact that this absorbent portion is saturated with a suitable liquid composition it will be observed that the pad and element 15 will be maintained in a moist condition and ready for use.
I claim:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a printingl ldevice including;v a casing consisting of movably connected sections defining' compartments, an inlring pad in one of said compartments, and an inl; eradicating element in the remaining compartment.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a printing` device includinga casing' consisting' of movably connected sections defining' compartments, an inking pad in one of said compartments, and an inl: eradicating` element in the remainingl compartment, a centrally arranged partition element connected with the casing,` for separating said compartments when the casing is closed and for exposing said compartments when the casing is open.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a finger printing device including a casing consisting of a pair of box-like sections each having an open end, a hinged connection therebetween for swinging said sections respectively to open or closed position, said sections each defining a compartment and inking and ink eradicating` elements in said compartments, and a partition member hinged to the hingedliT connected portion of the open ends of the casing for separating said inking and ink eradicating elements when the casing is closed.
4. As a new article of manufacture, a
finger printing device including a casing consisting of a pair of box-like sections each having an open end, a hinged connection therebetween for swinging said sections respectively to open or closed position, said sections each defining a compartment and inking and ink eradicating elements in said compartments, and a partition member hinged to the hingedly connected portion o't the open ends of the casing for separating said inking and ink eradicatingelements when the casing is closed, said partition member being of an absorbent material and saturated with a liquid composition for maintaining the 'faces oit said inking and eradicating elements in a moisteued state.
