CLIFTON, NEI/Vif JERSEY.
CHECK PROTECTOR.
Application filed October 9, 1924. Serial No. 742,697.
To all 'Le/wm t may concern: y
Be it known that I, ARRIGO VARETONI, a Subject of the King of Italy, and a resident ofk Clifton,` in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, IUnited States of America, have invented a new and Improved Check Protector, of which the following is la full, clear, and exact description. f f
This invention relates toY check protectors and more specifically to an attachment for check books which facilitates the inking of the -linger to provide linger prints on the check and also includes means whereby the linger may be readily cleaned after the finger printing operation.
An object of the invention isto provide an improved atttachment which includes an inkiiig pad, a compartment containing a cleansing material, a tongue for removable attachment to the cover of a check book, an improved means for folding a hinged cover over thepad and 'cleaning chamber, and an improved vconstruction or shape of cover forfacilitating the tearing of checks.
In general, the primary object is to provide a simple form of attachment for check books which includes convenient means 'for linger printingychecks.
lith these and Otherobjects in view the invention consists incertain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will bemore fully lhereinafter described and pointed out in the claims. f
In the accompanying drawings-i .Figure l is a plan view showing anopen check book with my improved attachment in position, the cover of the attachment be ing open and broken away. j
Fig. 2 is an exaggerated view lin longitudinal section on the line 2n2 of Fig. l, the cover being shown in closed position.v
Fig. 3 is an enlarged plan view of the attachment illustrating the same in position foi tearing a check.
l represents an ordinary check which, in the present instance, is illustrated as the upper check of a series and is bound in a cover 2 in any ordinary manner. Y
A represents .my improved ,attachment which comprises' a relatively flat metal casingi3. In one Aenol thereof an inking pad 5 is located and inthe other end', a perforated eompressible tube 7 containing a` cleansing compound 6 is provided. The
yis provided on its under face with a hook ll normally.engagedy by a spring arm 12 constituting a catch to hold the cover in closed position. This arm projects beyond TENT, OFFICES,...
thek side of the closed cover so that it is in a convenient position for movement to re# ably formed with a straight edge 13 with an angular edge 14: at one end so that a check` containing amounts can be readily torn off, using the cover Las a straight edge as indicated in Fig. 3.
In order to conveniently attaclithe Vdevice' to the check boola relatively long, preferably spring tongue l5 is fixed to the bottom of casing 3 and may be projected between thicknesses ofthe binding cover 2 so that when the checks lare exhausted the attachment may be removed from the check and a new check book inserted. I also preferably include asa part of the apparatus a sheet of blotting paper 16 which may beinserted under the casing 3 and be in convenient position for drying .the finger after it has been subjected to the cleansing composition.
The invention is, of course, not limited to any particular manner of placing the finger prints on the checks as this'ma-y be left entirely to the discretion of the user.
Various slight changes might be made iny the general form and arrangement of parts desci'ibedwithout departing from my inventioii and lienceI do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make suoli changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
l. An attachment ofthe character dei scribed comprising a casing, an inking pad in the'casing, and cleansing y.means on theI` casing.
ies
Casing, :i Spring tending' to open the 0mm',
:L catch holding the eovei' in normal closed position, and ai tongue lined to the easing 10 and adapted for removable :ittaelnnent to the cover of a Cheek book.
ARRIGO VARETONI.
