STENCILING DEVICE.
Application fried octoberis, leali. semi No. 743,301.'
This invention hasrelation to stenciling devices which are particularly designed for the purpose of stenciling packing cases, .packages or in any other capacityin which a stenciling device may be used.
The invention contemplates a stenciling device which includes Va plurality of individual stencil elements and a frame for interchangeably assembling said elements for use.
One of the outstanding objects of the present invention is to provide a stencling device of the character set forthwhich facilitates the interchangeable association of the stenciling elements with the frame member.
The invention furthermore comprehends a stenciling device which'is extremely simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture and produce and which is highly eicient in its purpose.
lVith the above recited and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel constructon set forth in the following specification, particularly pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanyinor drawings, it being understood that the right is reserved to embodiments other than those actually illustrated herein, to the full extent indicated by the general meaning of the terms in which the claims Vare ex-v pressed. v
In the drawings-- it Y Figure 1 is a plan view of one formof the stenciling device withthe stenciling elements v associated withthe frame; Y Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional viewtherethrough taken approximately on the line indicated at 2 2 in Fig. V1;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged transverse sectional view illustrating the slightly modied form of the invention;
Fig. l is a similar view of a further modiication of the invention;
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary plan view of a still further modified form of the invention;
Fig. 6 is a sectional view taken'approximately on the line 6-6 of Fig. 5;
Fig. 7 is a sectional view taken approximately on the line 7---7y of Fig. 5. i
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference and particularly to the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2,
10 designates generally theV frame of'thef stenciling device which is constructed of a single piece of material cut to provide a transverse end memberll having alpluing devices 16.
rality of parallel outer andy intermediate arms 12 vand 13 projecting from one side thereof. The confronting side edges of the cuterand intermediate arms 12 and 13=are provided with longitudinal grooves 14; which definev guideways for the reception of the offset edges 15 constituting tongues for the stencil elements 16 each of which elements 16 are constructed from a Asheet of material having the stenciled letters, numerals or other indicia 17. The stencil elements 16 are adapted to be inserted betweenV the adjacent arms 12 or 13 through the grooves 14 which extend through the free ends of the arms. The offset edges 15 of the stencil elements 16 dispose therbottom. faces of the elements 16 in the same plane with the bottom faces of the arms` 12 and 13 whereby the complete device may be laid flat upon the surface of the article to be stenciled.
In the modified form of the invention illustrated'in Fig. 3 the stencil element supporting frame is made up of two super-imposed sheets of material 18 and 19 so that the arms of the stencil element frame have the lower sheet `19 provided with an intermediate upstanding rib 2O which produces the grooves or guideways 21 for the stencil-l In the modified adaptation of the invention illustrated in Figs. 5, 6 and 7 the stencil device frame is composed of upper and lower sheets of material 26 .and 27 and-in this instance the arms of the upper sheet 26 are provided with upwardly offset side edges 28 which define between said edges 28 and the VVsideV edges of the lower sheet 27 the grooves or guideways 29. In this instance it will be also noted that the upper and lower sheets 26 and 27 are connected together by inserting the upstruck tongues 30 of the i lower sheet 27 through the slits 31 in the upper sheet 26 as clearly illustrated in Figs. I
5 and 6. l
I claim y 1. A stenciling device including stencil 'elements' having indicia stenciled therein, rand a supporting framefor removably Vand interchangeably receiving said elements comprisinga plurality of parallel arms having groovesl in their confronting edges for Areceiving the edges of the stencil elements, Vand a transverse connecting` member at one end of the same, said frame comprising a plurality of super-imposed connectedk layers ofmaterial. V
` betednpper corners defining a reduced 'Central rib :which together with the side edges of the layer defining the opposite arms produces grooves for receivingrthe edges of-.the stencil elements.
A3. A -stenciling device including stencil elements having indicia stenciled therein, anda supporting frame for removably and interchangeably receiving said elements in assembled relation, comprising upper, lovver and iiniermediate*layers oi' material each having a plurality of spaced parallel arms and a connecting member at one end of the arms, the arms ofthe intermediate layer being of lesser Width than the arms of the upper rand lovverlayersto define grooves at the opposite side edges of the iframe .arms for receiving the edges of the stencil elements.
