Description

May 29, 1934 F. B. HOLDER STAMP HOLDER Filed Aug. '50. 1932 v ISnventor flaw/w 5. 15240:?
(Ittorneg Patented May 29, 1934 UNITEE STATES rarest orifice 2 Claims. (Cl. 129-20) My invention relates to a holder for stamps of various varieties, and the objects of my invention are:
First: To provide a holder for supporting 5 "stamps of various characters in separate rela tion.
Second: To provide a holder of this class with folded margins so that the stamps will not readily come out when shifting from one variety to another.
Third: To provide a holder of this class in which one of the folded portions serves as a straight edge for tearing the stamps.
Fourth: To provide a holder of this class with extended tab portions in connection with each separate section.
Fifth: To provide a device of this class in which a portion of the holder is transparent so that the character of the stamps may be seen through a portion of the holder.
Sixth: To provide a holder of this class in which a plurality of holders may be used, thus providing for a large variety of stamps of different characters, and which are supported in leaf form in a book cover.
Seventh: To provide a device of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, efficient, easy to operate and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.
J With these and other objects in View as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this application, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cover showing two stamp holders positioned therein and partially open disclosing the stamps positioned therein; Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the holder through 2--2 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view thereof through 33 of Fig. 1.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the several views of the drawing.
Body member 1, lower flap 2, side flap 3, upper flap 4:, combined reinforcing flap and straight fedge 5, transparent retaining strips 6, and securing strips '7, constitute the principal parts and portions of my stamp holder.
The holders are preferably made of relatively heavy paper, the body portion 1 being flat and bf the proper size to fit in the cover. They are folded at their inner edge 5a and with the tapered folded portion 5 extending backwardly through 512 to the edge 50 near the middle portion as shown; it being noted that the upper and lower edges of this portion 5 are slightly 6Q} tapered as shown. The inner edge of this portion may be used as a straight edge for tearing the stamps along the perforated lines. Near the folded margin are provided holes 8 which are adapted to receive rings, or straps, or cords of 6d the book covers for permitting shiftable movement of the holders relative to each other.
The lower margin is provided with a narrow flap 2 which extends upwardly against the body 1 as shown in the drawing. The holder is also provided along its outer side margin with another flap 3 which folds over against the body 1 and against the end of the flap 2 as shown. The upper flap 4 may be left straight or nearly so, as shown, or if desired, it may be folded down over the upper end of the flap 3 and over a portion of the upper edge of the flap 5. However, in most cases, this flap 4 may be left in upright position or nearly so as shown in the drawing.
Cut out of the outer edge of the flap 3 are tab portions 3a which extend outwardly as shown in the drawing and upon which indicia showing the character of the stamps may be placed. In this case, it is shown on the one side with a tab with the character 3, on the other side with the characters 5, 8 and 10, meaning 3, 5, 8 and 10 cent stamps. These characters however may be varied to suit the various uses and classes of stamps used.
In the one pocket, there are no additional pockets formed by strips, while on the other, there are provided transparent strips 6 which extend up over the lower sides of the stamps so that if there is only one strip of stamps or a few stamps, therein, they can readily be seen through these transparent strips 6. These strips 6 are each reinforced by means of a relatively strong fabric strip 7 which is secured to the member 1 and holds the lower side of the strip 6 in position and permits the upper side to extend outwardly slightly as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing for receiving the stamps. The tendency of the strip 6, however, is to rest against the body 1 and the stamps are slipped in from the upper 195 side, thus there is provided in the one folder three separate pockets for three varieties of stamps with a tab for each pocket.
Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement, but desire to include in the scope of my invention, the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1, In a device of the-class described, a folded member comprising a leaf and a body, portion, the leaf extending a less distance transversely than the body portion, the body portion being provided with a lower margin and a side margin folded backwardly against the body portion to form flaps, and a plurality of transverse strips secured at the lower edges only to the body portion on the same side of said body portion that the flaps are positioned forming a plurality of pockets.
2. In a stamp holder, a body member including integral strips along its margins formed by doubling each margin of said body member against itself, a pair of the marginal strips arranged to overlap the extremities of a third marginal strip and retain the same in its folded position, said marginal strips forming a stamp receiving pocket arranged to co-act with the margins of a sheet of stamps, a flap hinged to an extended-edge of one of said strips, the extended edge of said flap forming a straight edge, and a series of bands extending across said body member and connected along their lower margins therewith, and disposed with their extremities projecting under said pair of flaps forming therewith additional stamp receiving pockets.
