Patented May 12, 1925.
PATENT OFFICE.
GLADYS IB. cookson, or CLEVELAND, OHIO.
. COMBINATION SUNBONNET AND HOUSE CAP.
Application filed August 15, 1924. Serial No. 782,201;
To all whom it may concern? Be it known that l, GLAnrs B. GooKsoN,
citizen of the United States. residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Sunbonnets and House Caps, of which the fol lowing is a specification. This invention is a combination sun bonnet and house cap, the primary object being to so construct such an article of wearing apparel as to embody simplicity'of construction and application for use, and low cost of production.
Another object is to provide an article of this nature which may be easily adjusted to fit the wearers head and will allow circulation of air therethrough with obviously beneficial results.
lit is likewise an object to provide an anti cle of this nature whose structure is such as to allow formation of a shield for the eyes of the wearer.
Other objects will be in part obvious and in part pointed out hereinafter.
In order that the invention and the mode of constructing and applying the same may be readily understood by others, I have in the accompanying illustration and in the following specification and claims based thereon, set out the preferred embodiment of the article.
In the drawings,
Figure l, is a side elevation of the combination sun bonnet and house cap; and
Figure 2, is a plan view thereof.
Having particular reference to the accom-' panying drawings throughout which similar characters of reference designate similar parts, this combination sunrbonnet and house cap may be stated as comprising alength of cloth which as illustrated is preferably rectangular in configuration thereby forming the body portion 5 of the article of apparel.
Arranged at transversely opposed corners at' one end of the body portion 5 is a air of substantially triangular sections6 o cloth. These sections 6, as shown, are stitched to the main section or body portion 5 or may if desired be formed integral with said body portion. The advantage of forming these triangular sections separately is that they may be of a difierently colored material and Across the end of the body portion at.
which the triangular sections 6 are attached, I secure a bias binding or tape 8, thistape being extended considerably beyond the triangular sections to form tie strings 9, by
means of which the cap is retained upon the head of the wearer.
By reference to the drawings it willbe seen that in arranging the cap or bonnet upon the head. the body portion 5 is first extended longitudinally; over the head projecting forwardly as at 10 to form a shield for the eyes. The rear end 11 or portion to which the triangular sections are attached, is then carried down over the backof the head from which point these sections 6 are extended around the sides of the head and tied together just over the forehead with the tie strings 9.
lit is quite obvious that changes in certain of the minor details of construction and arrangement may be made and such of these changes as may fall within the scope of the spirit of my invention. @ne of the changes in the arrangement of this article consists in moving the forward portion of the cap rearwardly to form the house cap the result being that the corners 12 will project. outwardly from the remaining portions and form openings for the passage of air. "lhese corners may be tucked in so as to provide at ca which will snugly fit the wearers head.
claim: 1; A combination sun bonnet and house cap comprising a cloth body portion adapted to cover the head of a wearer and project forwardly of the face to shield theeyes,
said body portion terminating at the. back of the head, substantially triangular sect1ons stitched to the longitudinal sides of the body portion near its rear end anddesigned to be carried around the sides of the wearers head to a point over the temples and a blue binding strip attached to the rear edge of the body portion and extending beyond the tri angular sections to form tie strings, said tie strings being secured together immediately above the forwardly promoting portion.
2. A combination sun bonnet and house cap comprising an' elongated rectangular cloth body portion,a pair of triangular 880" tions at the longitudinal edges of one end of the body, each triangular section having one ed e alined with the adjacent end of the bodyportion, and-a bindm striparranged 10 along said adjacent end an the alined por- -tions of the triangular sections, and tie strings formed through extending said binding strip beyond the triangular sections.
- In testimony whereof I aflix my si ature.
- GLADYS B. 000 son.
