Description
April 21, 1925.
W. H. HARRISON Q GARMENT HANGER File F 9. 1924 9 1 *2 Q a N U u :5 e U 4% '& elior H b H the distance between the upper and lower cross-pieces. While this way of arranging the cords is preferred, the invention is not limited to this precise arrangement, but it will be seen that the strain on the hanger members is distributed in such manner as to distribute the weight of the clothing and prevent breakage of any of the members composing the hanger.
Figure 2 illustrates the hanger shown in Figure 1 and indicates how different articles of clothing may be supported thereon. The drawings indicate how a coat and trousers are supported on the hanger. It will be understood that the waist-coat is beneath the coat, and I have also indicated how a pair of socks may be supported. Experience has demonstrated that ties, shirts and other articles may be supported on a hanger of the construction shown so as to support and associate a complete change of clothing. Clothing supported in the manner shown in Figure 2 may be suspended from a horizon tal rod, from hooks or other permanent fixtures and when needed can be easily withdrawn from a place of storage and removed from the hanger. The hanger is especially designed to support articles of clothing assembled in the manner described and in convenient condition for transfer to a traveling trunk especially designed to contain a plurality of suits. Such a trunk is shown in my application for patent filed February 9, 1924, and reference is made to that application for further particulars. It will be observed, by reference to Figure 2, that the lengths of cord depending from a. hanger are passed through the sleeves of the coat, brought together and. tied at C. It will also be observed that the rounded ends A of the lower cross-piece extend well into the shoulder portions of the sleeves so as to so hold the coat as to retain the natural creases and prevent the formation of creases in undesirable places. The upper and lower cross-pieces being flexibly connected may, when not used to support clothing, be
brought together and tied by the cord so as I to occupy a very small space. As before stated, the distance between the upper and lower crosspieces A and B may be adjusted by properly locating the knots a and y.
lVhen in use the weight of the clothes exerts a strain on the cordage and thereby the articles of clothing which are held by the cordage on the cross-piece are securely fastened.
I claim as my invention:
1. A garment hanger comprising upper and lower cross pieces, flexible connections joining the two cross pieces and cords extending downwardly below the lower cross piece to a greater extent than the sleeve length of a coat and providing means for holding the sleeve of a coat in proper position for hanging or packing.
2. A garment hanger comprising upper and lower cross-pieces, cords connecting the two cross-pieces and holding them a suitable distance apart and which extend clownwardly below the lower cross-piece to a greater extent than the sleeve length of a coat and provide means for holding the sleeves of a coat in proper position for hanging or packing.
3. A garment hanger comprising upper and lower cross-pieces, a wire secured to the ends of the upper cross-piece and provided with loops in its middle portion, and cords connected with the upper cross-piece extending through the loops of the wire and connected with the end portions of the lower cross-piece.
4. A garment hanger comprising upper and lower cross-pieces, a wire secured to the ends of the upper cross-piece and pro vided with loops in its middle portion, a cord extending through the end portions of the upper cross-piece and through the loops of the wire and then through the end portions of the lower cross-piece, and another length of cord extending through the loops of the wire and through the middle portion of the lower cross-pieee.
5. A garment hanger comprising an upper cross-piece, a lower cross-piece, a wire attached to the ends of the upper cross-piece and having loops near the middle portion of said upper cross-piece, and lengths of cord attached to the upper cross-piece which extend through said loops and have diagonal portions which extend to the ends of the lower cross-piece.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name.
