Be it .known that I, HENRY Funs'rn, a

citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cartons,

I of which the following is a specification.

An object of my invention is to provide a carton, such as disclosed in my co-pending application, Serial #508,433, with means to secure the lid upon the carton body in 'a closed or non-display position.

Another object of my invention is to provide a simple and efficient means for .the purpose stated.

These and other objects are attained by means described herein and disclosed in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Fig. 1 is a perspective view-of a carton such as disclosed in .my co-pending application' embodying my invention. i

Fig. 2 is a development of a blank as is used in providing a carton as disclosed in Fi 1.

. The carton 3 has hingedly mounted upon its back A a top 5 adapted to be bent upon itself intermediate its ends along a weakened or scored line 6, whereby the upper forward face 7 of the lid 5 may be used for display purposes as disclosed in Fig. 1. The forward and

7 and 8 of the top carry along their side edges, lugs '9 and 10 adapted to be inserted-into slots 11 and 12 formed in the carton body at the junction of the

sides

13, 14 and the top flange 15.

The lugs 9 and 10 are so disposed. upon the top that portions of the lugs lie on opposite sides of the weakened line 6, the weakened line 6 extending thru the lugs. The lugs are adapted to be turned upon the top along weakened

lines

16 and 17 to permit insertion of the lugs in the slots 11 and 12. When the lid is used as a closure for the carton,

class described having sides and a lid adapted to act as a complete closure forthe carton when in box formation and being also fold able to expose parts of its outer surface for display purposes, the carton being provided with openings at the upper edges of the sides, and lugs-carried by the lid extending on opposite sides of the line of fold of the lid and bendable upon the lid to enter the openings at the tops of the sides.

2. The combination with a carton of the classdescribed having sides and a lid adapted to act as a complete closure for the carton when in box formation and being also foldable to expose parts of its outer surface for display purposes, the carton being provided with openings along the sides thereof, lugs carried by the lid adjacent the line of fold of the lid bendable upon the lid and adapted to be inserted into the openings at the sides. 3. The combination of a carton of the class described having a lid foldable upon itself intermediate its ends, and having openings intermediate the extremities of' the lid, and lugs extending from the lid on both sides of the line of fold for entry into the openings when the lid isin extended position for retaining the lid in a closed position.
