SANITARY HEAD GOING.
Application filed May 6,
To all whom it may concern:
Be. it known that I, CLARIQE E. CARPEN- ran, a citizen of the United States, residing at Scranton, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Head Coverings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a sanitary head covering adapted for use in millinery stores and to be applied to the heads of customers trying on hats to prevent soiling of the hats, and obviate chance of transmission of scalp diseases from one person to another, the invention having for an object the provision of a cheap form of sanitary head covering of this type which can be discarded after use by one person.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing,
and to the appended claims'in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
V Fig. 1 of the drawing is a plan view of my improved sanitary head cover.
Fig. 2 is aside view thereof. 7 v
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary underside plan view, with parts in section, of my improved sanitary head cover.
Fig. 4 is afragmentary side view thereof.
Fig. 5 is adetail sectional view taken on the line 5 -5 of Fig. 3.
My improved sanitary head cover is made out of a sheet of paper which is cut to oval shape. This sheet of paper is then crimped or pleated around the outerportion thereof as at 11 the crimps or pleats extending inward in a generally radial direction and diniinishing m depth toward their inner ends, these crimps or pleats stopping short of the centre of the cover at their inner ends. The crimping may be done in any ordinary type of machine for this purpose. When the crimping has been finished the sheet assumes the appearance shown in Fig. 2, which conforms approximately to the shape of the top part'of the human head, a sanltary cap or cover being thus provided which can be placed upon the head of the person trying on hats to prevent contact of the hats with the head of the person, the cover being thrown away after use by one person.
1924:. Serial No. 711,312.
In order to permit of fitting the cover more snugly on the head of the person using 1t, the inner fold or reach 11 of each pleat is formed with an inwardly tapering slit or notch, indicated generally at it which is of less depth and width than the depth and width of the pleat, and when the coveris shaped to fitvthe head the two edges of this notch or slot overlap one another as shown, and it will be obvious, that the size of the cover will be determined by the degree of overlap of these edges.
To retain these overlapped edges in position ll may strike out from the two elements 11" the rows of tongues 15 which are adapted to interlock with one another.
As will be apparent from the above description I have provided an improved form of sanitary headcover which will prevent soiling of hats, or transmission of disease, and'which is of an insignificant cost.
Having thus described my invention what i I claim as new and desire to protect by Letthereinto from the edge of the sheet to permit of expansion and contraction of the cover, said notches being of less width and depth than the pleats, and having their side walls overlapping one another, and means adjustably securing the said overlapping side walls together.
2. A sanitary head cover for the purpose specified comprising a sheet of paper having pleats extending inward from the margin thereof, the inner fold of each pleat .being formed with an inwardly extending notch, and having their side walls overlapping one another, and tongues on the two elements of the inner fold of each pleat adapted to interlock with one another to hold the said two elements overlapped.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
