TADEO VALER-O, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
i ATTACHAIBLE BASEBALL COVER.
Application filed June 26, 1922. Serial No. 570,761.
in the county of Bronx and State of New:
York, have invented anew and Improved Attachable Baseball Cover, of, which the following is a description. p
My invention relates to baseballs and more particularly to the cover thereof, said invention in its preferred form constituting an attachable cover which may be applied to a ball from which the original. cover has been removed due to and following of the breaking of the stitchesafter the ball has been in play, in. which embodiment of they invention cover parts are made available following the conventional form characterizing the original cover and particularly useful to the younger players, whereby at small cost a ball the original cover of which has become detached or destroyed may be re stored to a condition approaching in usefulness and durability a new ball.
The invention furtherhas in view to provide a cover that maybe applied to the ball without stitching as well as to provide a novel and effective'means for securing. the coverv parts on the ball without employing stitching and having advantages over stitching in giving auniform smoothness to the Reference is'to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of one example of the invention.
Figure 1 is an elevation of a baseball having my improved cover; y
Figure 2 is a section as indicated by the line 22-, Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a vertical section of the two cover parts.
In carrying out my] invention I provide through one cover parts two of which are indicated at 10 and 11 and employed to constitute a complete ball cover. Saidpar'ts 10, 11 each presents an edge corresponding generally with the curves of the edge conformation of the usual. baseball cover sections and in accordance with my invention each part is given a permanent shape to constitute part of a spherical surface so, that two of such parts will form the completespherical surface.
The inner. surface of each part. or section 10, 11 has applied thereto a suitable adhesive material. y
The cover sections 10 and 11 at the ends thereof are made to overlap or be over lapped by the adjacent incurving sides of the mating sections so that a crescentic portion of an end of one section overlaps the incurving adjacent side of the mating section as will be clear from Figure 1.
The overlapped edge portions of the respective sections are bevelled as indicated in Figures 2 and 3 so that exteriorly a smooth and regular spherical surface will be presented by the cover when the two sections are applied.
Except for the crescentic overlapping portions of the cover sections the respective sections 10, llabut as indicated at 13.
I would state in conclusion that while the illustrated" example constitutes a practical embodiment of my inventioml do not limit myself strictly to the exact details herein illustrated, since, manifestly, the same can be considerably varied. without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
, .l laving thus described my invention, I claim:
1. As an article of manufacture, a base-' ball cover formed of two mating sections each having convex ends and concave sides, the convex ends having greater radius than the curvature of the concave sides so as to overlap at said concave sides.
2. As an article of manufacture, a basball cover formed of two mating sections each having convex ends and concave sides, the convex ends having greater radius than the curvature ofthe concave sides so as to overlap at said concave sides, the overlapping portionsbeing bevelled, and forming exteriorly the same spherical surface as the nonoverlapping portions of the sections.
8. As an article of manufacture, a base-- ball cover formed of two mating sections each having convex ends and concavesides,
the convex ends having greater radius than the curvature of the concave sides so as to overlap at said concave sides, there being abutting edge portions between said overlapping: portions.
