IMPROVEMENT IN CABINET BEDSTEADS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 153,092. dated July 14, 1874; application filed February 27, 1874.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CARL A. LEICH, a resident of the city of Minneapolis, county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cabinet or Recess Beds, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description:

My invention relates to that class of folding beds which can be closed up and made to represent a different piece of furniture; and it consists in the combination of certain devices hereinafter explained.

F shows a cabinet, and G the door thereto, the latter being hinged, at its lower and outer end, to the side of the case by the hii'iges B, the hinges being so placed that the door may be opened downward from the top. Bed-rails O are attached to both sides of the door C, and also to the outer end of said door, as shown in Figs. l andQ, the object of said boards or rails being to keep the springs and mattress in place. When the door O is let down, preparatory to being' used as a bed, its outer end is supported by the legs G, said legs being so arranged that they can be swung in out of the way when not needed, as shown by the dotted lines g, Fie'. 2. At the inner end of the door O is placed the bolster D, which is hinged at its outer and lower end E.v The cord P runs over the pulleys Oll Ol O, and is attached to the truck-wheels N, said truckwheels occuping a position immediately under the inclined bolster D. The forcing ot the truck N toward the front or hinged edge of the bolster D by the cord P gives any required inclination to said bolster, by forcing up the inclined piece S, under which the truck passes. The hooks R are to attach the cord P to, that the bolster may be held in its required position. The hinges A are fastened to each side ol' the door C by screws or other suitable means. The projecting hubs B ot' the hinges A enter cast-iron centers screwed to the sides of the cabinet F, the position of said hubs being shown at B, Fig. 1. Upon the inner and projecting end of the hinge A is attached a heavy weight, L, Fig. 3. The object of the weight L is to counterbalance the weight of 4the door O.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and want to secure by Letters Patent,

The bolster D, hinged at E, in combination with the trucks N and cord P, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
