SAFETY POCKET.

Be 1t known that I, ABRAHAM BLOCK, a

of Bloomfield, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety Pockets, of'which the following is a speciication.

The objects of this invention are to Secure an improved safety pocket which shall 'render it impossible for a pickpocket to remove the contents without attracting the attention of the wearer; to insure that any attempt to pick the pocket of its contents shall attract the attention ot' the wearer; to combine with a closed compartment and an open'compartment trom which the pickpocket canfeel the contents, so that he will attempt to pull the pocket inside out, special means for causing such a pull to be felt by the wearer; to provide a simple and practical construction for securing such results, and to obtain other advantages and results as may be brought out by the following description.

Referring to the accompanying` drawings, in which like numerals of reference indicate the same parts throughout the several views,

Figure l is an outside view of the upper part of a pair of trousers having side and hip pockets embodying my invention;

a median partition 3 inn its plane dividing the pocket into compartments 4 and 5, said partition being thin enough so that a pocketbook 6 or other valuable in one compartment can be plainly telt by a hand inserted in the othercompartment. One compartment is provided with concealed means for closing the entrance to it, while the other compartment is left open so that a hand ay be readily inserted into it. Obviousl either compartment may be the open one and the other the closed one, but in the present drawings I have shown the inner compartment 4, next the wearer, open and the other one 5 closed. Furthermore, any suitable means known to the art may be used at the entrance to the closed compartment lfor covering and concealing it,` but for illustration I have shown. scc Figures 7 and 8, the side ot the partition 3 next the closed compartment 5 provided at the mouth of said compartment with a tiap 7 and cooperating separable fasteners suchas snap member 8, 9 and button' and button-hole l0, 11 for releasably securing it to the outer vwall 12 of therpooket. Another flap 13 secured to the edge ot said outer wall 12 is provided tofold inwardly overl the margin of the partiti n Band be secured thereto as by snap mem ers 14, 15. This covers and: conceals the t'ntr'ance to the compartment 5, while leaving the entrance to the other compartment t open and easily entered by the hand.

The edge of the side pocket 2 is according to my invention connected to the crotch of the trousers, preferably to the seam 16 thereat and preferably it is the lower part of the pocket whichis thus connected. This may be done in any suitable way, but I have shown it accomplished, see Figure 2, more especially, by continuing the outer wall 12 ci the pocket to that portion of the seam -16 at which the Hy 17 is located, as a connecting web 18. While this connecting web is shown as extending from the lower end of the pocket 2 all the way to its top, it is obvious that it could extend any desired dis tance upward from said lower end, without affecting its function of causing a pull up on the crotch of the trousers when any atu tempt is made to turn the pocket inside out.

It will be understood that in using my invention the pocket book 6 or other valuable is placed in the closed compartment 5, as shown in Figure 3, so that 1i a pickpocket mit inserts his hand into. the other, or open,
