H. A. KENNERLY DEVICE FOR HOLDING IN PLACE ON THE SHOULDERS OF THE WEARER,
SHOULDER STRAPS OF LADIES EVENING AND SIMILAR GOWNS Filed Nov. 15. 1922 INVENTOR /LM 6MWM ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 10, 1925.
PATENT OFFICE.
HELENE ALBERT KEN NERLY, OF NEW YORK, N.
DEVICE FOR HOLDING IN PLACE ON THE SHOULDERS OF THE WEARER, SHOULDER STRAPS F LADIES EVENING AND SIMILAR GOWNS.
Application filed November 15, 1922. Serial No. 601,007.
a means for holding comfortably and sccurely to the shoulders of the wearer shoulder straps of ladies evening and similar gowns and thus prevent said straps from n'ioving out of place or slipping off the wearefis shoulders. It may be observed that it is not an un- 0 common occurrence for the thin and light supporting strap or straps of such gowns to slip from the shoulders of the wearer, in
many cases causing muchdiscomfort and subjecting the wearer to the annoyance and burden of replacing the strap or straps to normal position on the shoulder.
To protect the wearer against occurrences of such character I-have provided a device that is simple and inexpensive, that can be applied to any gown of the above description without any, or at least with a negligible amount of alteration in the supporting straps of gowns of the above described character.
The inventionconsists simply of a small piece of tape or ribbon made of a width slightly less than the straps of evening gowns with meanshereinafter described for securing the strap to the shoulder.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a top plan view oi the device. Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of an alternative form.
To accomplish my desired object I thus provide as aforesaid a small piece of ribbon or other suitable material a, approximately from one to three inches in length, and about a half inch or less in width. The
dimensions of the device may vary according to the dimensions of the strap it is intended to be applied to.
To each side of said ribbon is applied a thin coating of adhesive substance represented by the letter 7) in the accompanying drawings, or the adhesive coating may be applied to the end portions of said device and on each side. v The device is then ready for use. To apply it, it is first fastened to the under side of the shoulder strap by pressing it against same. In turn the strap is secured to the shoulder by pressing the strap and device against it, or the reverse proeedurc may be employed by first applying the device to the shoulder and thento the strap of the gown.
Another form of my invention as illustrated in Fig. 3 consists in employing what is commonly called an invisible fastener as ameans for connecting the device to the shoulder strap instead of by the use of adhesive substance. In the accompanying drawings this fastener is represented by the letter (2. In this form the device need merely be coated on one side with adhesive substance I) and to the other side one member of the invisible "fastener is securely attached. The counter part of said fastener is scwed or inserted on the under side of the shoulder strap. Thus by pressing both members of the fastener together the device becomes securely connected with the shoulder strap.
More than one fastener may be employed, but experiments have shown that one such catch is sufficient. The advantage of this form of connection over the other lies in the fact that the device may be changed from time to time from one gown to another without soiling in any manner the shoulder strap.
Experiments have been made with the above described device and have proven the value of the invention. It is particularly useful for people of the stage whose constant wear of such gowns is a necessity and who are constantly appearing before the critical gaze of large audiences.
2 aspen Having thus described my invention what of the wearer, said material having a coat- I now claim and desire to protect by Letters ing of adhesive on both sides to secure it Patent is as follows: to the shoulder of the wearer and the shoul- 0 A means of holding in place shoulder der strap of the gown. 5 straps of ladies gowns comprising a flexible This specification dated the 14th day of strip of material adapted to la between the- November, 1922. shoulder strap of the gown an the shoulder HELENE ALBERT KENNERLY.
