Description

Mar. 3. 1925. 4 s. K. IVES susrmmm HOOK FOR OVERALLS Filed July 2. 1924 Patented Mar. 3, 1925.
UNITED STATES SHERMAN K. IVES, OF LITCHFIELD, CONNECTICUT.
SUSPENDER HOOK FOB OVER-A1125.
Application filed July 2,
To all whom. it may concern:
Be it known that. I, SHERMAN K. Ives, a citizen of the United States, residing at Litchfield, in the county of Litchfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Suspender Hook for Overalls, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a means for securing the suspender straps of overalls to the bib-portion thereof. I
One of the important objects of the present invention is to provide a suspender attaching means of the above mentioned character, wherein the same is'of such a construction as to permit the suspender strap to be readily and easily fastened to the bib of the overalls in such a manner to prevent the accidental disengagement of the suspender strap from the bib.
A further object of the invention is to provide a suspender attaching means for overalls of the above mentioned character, wherein the device is of such a construction as to permit the same to be readily disengaged from the ends of the suspenders with which the same is associated.
A further object is to provide a suspender attaching means for overalls of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction. inexpensive, strong and durable and furthermore adapted for the purposes for which it is designed.
Other objects and advantages of this involition will become apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same:
Figure l is a front elevation of my improved invention showing the same attached to the end of a suspender strap.
Figure 2 is side elevation thereof, and
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken approximately on line 33 of Figure 1.
In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates generally my improved suspender attaching and fastening means and the same comprises a single strand of wire which is bent back upon itself intermediate its ends and twisted for a suitable distance to provide a hook such as is illustrated at 1924. Ser al N0. 723,763
clearly in Figures 2 and 3 of the drawings and provides a means for engagement with the button hole (not shown) of the bib portion of a pair of overalls. The ends of the strand of wire are curved outwardly as illustrated at 3 and then disposed upwardly as illustrated at 4; so as to be spaced from the hook 2.
y The upwardly extending portion 4 of the strand of wire of which the suspender attaching means is formed extends for a suitable distance above the free end of the hook 2 and are then disposed outwardly as illustrated at 5 and upwardly as shown at 6. The upwardly extending portions 6 of the ends of the strand of wire provide a pair of arms, the purpose of which will hereinafter be more fully described. The free ends of the wires are then disposed inwardly as illustrated at 7 and are fastened together by interlooping the ends of the strand of wire in the manner illustrated at A with reference more particularly to Figure 1.
Adapted for slidable movement on the portions of the arms 6 between the laterally disposed portions 5 and the inwardly extending portions 7 of the strand of wire is the cross member 9 the ends of which are looped as illustrated at 10 for slidable engagement with the arm 6. The purpose of this construction is to provide a means whereby the device may be attached to the end of each suspender strap A of a pair of overalls and the manner in which the suspender straps are attached will be presently described.
The end of each suspender strap is inserted between the arms 6 and then folded over the cross wire 9. The folded end of each suspender strap is then passed under the looped ends of the strand of wire in the manner shown in Figure 1 and by exerting a downward pull on the lower por' tion of the suspender attaching means, the.
free end of each suspender strap will be securely fastened between the cross wire and the horizontally disposed end portions of the wire so that the device will at all times be carried by the ends of the suspender strap.
In use, it is only necessary to insert the hooks 2 into the button holes provided in the bib portion of the overalls and the suspending sta'aps will thereby be attached thereto and hold the overalls in proper position on the body of the wearer. In this manner the use of the ordinary buttons is eliminated and considerable time will, be saved in fastening or unfastening the shoulder or suspended strap of the overalls to the bib portion. Furthermore, the simplicity in which my device is constructed enables the suspender strap fastening means to be readily disengaged therefrom whenever it becomes necessary.
While I have shown the preferred em bodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is A suspender hookiformedfrom a'sin-gle length of wire, doubled upon itself at a point between its ends and twisted, the said twisted portion being formed in ogee configuration, the side portions of the wire, from the twist being curved away from the twist and spaced therefrom and extending substantially.parallel therewith, and whereby the curves of the ogee configuration of the twist are disposed at opposite sides of the plane, in which the side portions of the wire are located, the side portions of the wire at their upper ends being extended away from each other and then extended parallel with relation to each other and brought together transversely of the structure and connected with each other, at a point approximately in alignment with the twist, and a cross wire provided at its ends with loops, which receive the last mentioned parallel side port-ions of the first mentioned wire.
In testimony whereof I aflix mysignaturc.
SHERMAN K. IVES.
