To aZZlct-wm- 1l/*may concern:
Beitfknown@ that l; GLEN l Si HUMri-nem', a `citizen otfthe Unitedy States, and' a resident of they cityiovliewll Yorin. borongliloi Brooklyn, in the county-oli llin-gs and State proved 1loir and Cover; of which theI follow-` inggisa tull ClearyV and exact description.
This inventiontrelates to boxes and; pera` tainscparticularly to ani improved inea-ns i `of connection` between .the body and' cover ot the-tbox. Theinwentionxisparticularly applicable to boxesifor containing cigars or `other similar i articles o'l' merchandise `wlii cli` 1 are displayed. j for salle in i the4 original l boiav or paclmge,l and thel same contemplates: asfaln obj ect l a:` means of f `connection between the cover and box. which permits 1. oli the swinging o'l the cover respectively to a rearwardly ink clined idis-play ipositiony to'r a; vertically Vdisposed display position with: the'` lower edge ot L4the cover-in` contactlfwith thcwbox supporting surface,` ortenn position flnnsupporting` the r box body in rearwardly` inclined display positionu As a further object the invention aimsto provide a box body and cover having a connection oi the characteraset forth, which is extremely simple in its construction tand operation, which is inexpensive to manufacture and produce, and which is highly ei'iicient in its purpose.
lith the above recited and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction set `forth in the following specification, particularly pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being understood that the right is reserved to embodiments other than those actually illustrated herein to the full extent indicated by the general meaning of the terms in which the claims are cxpressed.
ln the drawingsn Figure l is a perspective view ot a bon constructed in accordance with the invention, and illustrating the same with the cover in closed position.
Fig. 2 is a similar view with. the cover in its rearwardly inclined display posit-ion.
Fig. 3 is a Similar view with the cover in its vertical display position.
Fig. `4; is a similar view with the cover einployed as a means for supporting the box body in rearwardly inclined display position.
Referring tothe. drawings by'characters of reference, '10i designates lFthe boxcbody; 11 fthe cover `ther-eten the ormerf beingiprovided with-outwardly projecting frivetsl@ tromthe upper rear corners of,` its 'side l wall l13,2 which rivetspiconstitutetrunnionsa` The cover 11a-is provided with g depending@v `SideV l flzmgee 14 which;aredesigneduwhen the cover is closed to iit over f the upper ends of A the .outer 'side walls :i3 off theibox body. The fiianges 14 ,are providedwith longitudinally entendingfslots l5 having oii'set terminals-16uand 17.The rivets oratrunnions -12 projeotSthrough" the slots-115 to constitute a ineansfoficomiection between the :coverfand the boisr body to all-ow tor relativer-sliding ,and swinging qnrovenient ot the L cover .fwitla'respect to the body.A
VVhen-the covcris in closedrelation, as illustratedgin:Fig.1, .the trunnion's or rivets 12; are positionedcin `the rear-ends otlthe slots 15. Vvlhenf it isi` desired to' arrange `the cover l1 inctheurearwardly inclinedwdisplay positionfas illustrated inFig. i 2; the cover is swungtoan. open positionfand theotset terminals "17 `are engaged with the trunnions or rivets l2, while the rear edgelot the cover engages withtl'ie rearfwallfl) of fthe box,` body,l which dimite `-rearward- `inclined swinging movement of the cover and maintains the saine in its inclined display posi tion. When it is desired to dispose the cover in a vertical display position at the rear of the box body as illustrated in Fig. 3, the cover is swung from a closed position upward to a vertical position and then is slid downwardly until its rear edge contacts with the supporting surface for the box body. In this position the rivets or trunnions l2 are disposed intermediate the ends oi the slot l5. W'hen it is desired to employ the cover as a means for supporting and maintaining the boitr body in a rearwardly inclined display position as illustrated in Fig. l the cover is slid a further distance downwardly than the position illustrated in Fig. 3 and the rivets l2 are positioned within the oti'set terminals 16 at the forward ends of the slots 15. This 'disposes the rear edge 18ct the cover 1l an appropriate distance below the bottom of the box body to give the required rearward inclination thereto and that the box is supported from the front lower edge of the body and the rear or lower edge of the cover when in this position.
From the foregoingit will thus be seen that a box having a connection between its cover and body is provided which affords means for variously displaying the contents of the advertising matter on the inside of the cover, which is especially designed for cigar boxes or the like.
I claim:
l. A box including a body and a cover, and a means of connection therebetween to permit of the swinging of the cover selectively to a rearwardly inclined display position relative to the body with the body disposed in fiat contact with its supporting surface; to a vertically disposed display position with the rear end of the cover in contact with the box supporting surface and with the body in flat contact with said supporting surface; and to a position for supporting the body of the box in a rearwardly inclined display position with respect to the supporting surface.
2. A box including a body and a cover, and interengaging means of connection therebetween to permit of relative sliding and swinging movements of the cover with respect to the body, whereby the cover may be maintained by said means at a rearwardly inclined display position relative to the body with said body in fiat contact with its supporting surface, or maintained in a position in contact with the rear wall of the body and extending below the bottom thereof to support said body in a rearwardly inclined display position with respect to its supporting surface.
3. A box body and cover having interengaging means of connection therebetween whereby to permit the cover to be selectively arranged in covering position on the body, in a rear upwardly inclined display position from the upper rear edge of the body, in a vertical display position against the rear wall of the body with the rear edge of said cover supported by the box body supporting surface, and in a position against the rear wall of the body and projecting below the bottom of the body whereby to support the said box body in a rear upwardly inclined display position with respect to its supporting surface.
4. A box body and cover having interengaging means of connection therebetween whereby to permit the cover to be respectively arranged in covering position on the body, in a rear upwardly inclined display position from the upper rear edge of the body, in a vertical display position against the rear wall of the body with the rear edge of said cover supported by the box body supporting surface, and in a position against the rear wall of the body and projecting below the bottom of the body whereby to support the said box bo'dy in a rear upwardly inclined display position, said means of connection comprising trunnions projecting outwardly from the upper rear corners o-f the side walls of the box body, and depending side flanges on the cover having longitudinal slots formed with offset terminals at its opposite ends and engaging sai'd trunnions.
