PHILIP H. nonnnvs, or NEW YORK, N. Y, assreivoa'ro roann'r'rn consnrs, INC.,
on NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
c'onsnr.
Application filed December 13, 1923. Serial No. 680,539.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP H. ROBBINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corsets, of which the following is a specification.
,This invention relates to an improvement in corsets, and one object of the invention is to combine the brassiere and corset into one garment.
Another object of the invention is to so construct the combination brassiere and step-in-corset, requiring only a twelve inch garment where ordinarily a fourteen inch garment would be necessary, and a fourteen 1nch garment where a sixteen inch garment would ordinarly be necessary, due of course to design.
Another object of the invention is to construct the brassiere in two parts forming a front and back part, hooked together at the sides. 1
Another object of the invention is the elastic or non-elastic connection between the inner lower ends of each half of the brassiere to the corset proper.
Another feature of the invention is that the design of the front of the corset part forming a restraining part of the brassiere, likewise with the back of the garment.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is aperspective view showing the front of the garment;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the back of the garment;
Fig. 3 is a detail view showing the manner of securing the inner lower ends of the brassiere to the corset.
The numeral 1 indicates the non-elastic body or back portion of the corset, the numerals 2 and 3 indicate rear elastic sections attached to the vertical edges of the nonelastic body or back portion. These elastic portions 2 and 3 are preferably provided with stays 44 at the meeting edges of-the back 1 and non-elastic sections 2 and 3. Connected to the rear elastic sections 2 and 3 are the front elastic sections 5 and 6, which extend toward the front and are connected to the front non-elastic panel 7. At the meeting ed e of the front non-elastic section 7 and. t e elastic sections 5 and 6 stays 88 are provided which begin a short 'siere at all times is held in downwardly to approximately the center of the corset.
The front non-elastic section 7 is preferably provided with a plurality of stays 9 centrally thereof, the lower portion of said sections being open as at'lO, and provided with a lacing 11. The upper part ofboth the front and back non-elastic sections 7 and I extend slightly above the upper edge of the elastic sections as illustrated. The lower edge of the corset is provided with the usual. fastening means 12, for supporting the stockings.
The brassiere is preferably made in front and back sections 13 and 14, secured at the lower edge to the upper edge of the front and back non-elastic sections 7 and 1, the remaining lower edge of the brassiere being free relative to the side elastic portion of the corset. The front and back sections of the brassiere are adapted to be fastened together at the sides as at 13 and 14'. On each side of the'brassiere adjacent the securing means are elastic strips 15 which extend downwardly diagonally, the lower ends being secured to the elastic sections of the corset at their meeting edge. The elastic strips serve to permit free movement of the body and yet hold the brassiere down, neatly around the body. The numeral 16 indicates the usual shoulder straps of the brassiere. Loops 17 are provided at the sides of the corset to enable the wearer to pull the same up into the correct position.
It will thus be seen that I have combined the corset and brassiere into a single slip on garment, the brassiere being divided at the sides to facilitate the application of the garment, the construction eing such that the garment fits very neatly, and the brasplace. The fact that the brassiere and corset are not attached at sides permits each movement of the .body, the elastic fastening means for the de tached sides serving to keep the brassiere in place. I
I claim:
1. In a garment of v the character described, the combination with a corset including elastic andnon-elastic sections, of a brassiere secured to the non-elastic sections of the corset, the lower side portions being formed into extensions, the upper edges of the side elastic sections and the distance from the top edge and extend. extensions overlapping each other, and
means for attaching said extensions to the elfastic sections below the upper edges there- 0 I 2. In a garment, of the character de scribed, the combination with a corset including elastic and non-elastic sections, of a brassiere secured .to the non-elastic sections of the corset, the lower side portions bf the brassiere being formed into extensions which'underlap the upper edge of the side elastic sections, and means for at .taching said extensions to the elastic sections the corset overlapping each other, and elastic strips secured to the lower edges of the brassiere and attached to the corset for holding the sides of the brassiere and corset together.
-4. In a garment of the character described, the combination with a corset, of a brassiere secured thereto, the lower side portions of the brassiere extending beneath the ripper edge of the corset, and elastic strips secured to said lower underlapped edges of the brassire and secured to the corset for holding the sides of the brassiere within the corset.
5. In a garment of the characterdescribed, the combination with a brassiere having openings on each side thereof, of a corset connected with the brassiere and having front, back andside sections secured together, and elastic strips secured adjacent the edges of the openings in the brassiere and connected with the sections of the corset for holding the sides of the brassiere within the corset.
6. In a garment of the kind described, the combination of a one-piece body portion made of front and back sections, of a non-elastic material and side sections of elastic material, a brassiere consisting of front and back sections secured to the nonelastic sections of the body portion and strips secured adjacent the meeting edges of the front and back portions of the brassiere, the lower ends of which are secured intermediate of the top and bottom of the body portion.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature. v
PHILIP H. ROBBINS.
