Description

D. D. BOONE BRooM Filed Nov. 30, 1923 www Uhlli'li Sie? PEN? DANIEL DOVE BOONE,
OF EAST BAKEESFIELD, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD T S. K. DGKNSON AND ONE-THERE T0 VJ. K. DCKENSON, BOTH GF EAST BAKERS- BROOM.
Application lt@ November e0, 1923. Serial No. 677,743.
To all whom it may oon-oem.'
Be it known that I, Damian DOVE BOONE, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Bakersfield, in the county ot Kern and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brooms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in brooms and specifically to the push type ot l@ broom, the` main object thereof being the provision of an article of this nature, wherein the broom head may be readily adjusted with respect to the handle for conse- Y' quently allowing the broom bristles to be 'i5 evenly worn out and for allowing a new broom head to be readily associated with 'the handle in a novel and quick manner.
A still further object of the invent-ion resides in the provision of a broom of the push type wherein broom heads ot great-1y varying sizes may be advantageously used in conjunction with a single handle construction that forms an essential part of the preseni invention.
With the above and other objects in view as the nature of the invention will be better understood, the same comprises the novel form, combination and arrangement ot parts hereinafter more fully described, 3@ shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In the drawing wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout both of the views,
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a push broom constructed in accordance with the present invention, the handle receiving socket. element thereof being partly disclosed in cross section, and
Figure 2 is a front elevational view there of, the broom head being removed.
Now having particular` reference to the drawing wherein there is shown the most practical embodiment of the present invention with which T, am at this time familiar, the same comprises a head 5 of the conventional push broom type, a brush head clamp construction 6, and an adjustable arm member 7 adapted to be adjustably secured at 50 one end to the clamp construction 6 and adapted to receive at its socketed end 8, the
usual wooden handle 9, it being well to herein state that the essence ot' my invention merely includes the clamp construction 6 es and adjustable arm member 7@ t The head 5 comprises the usual bristles 10 set within a substantially rectangular shaped wooden block 11.
The clamp construction 6 comprises a pair of superposed plates 12 and 13 that are adapted to be slidably displaced in opposite directions when brush heads including block portions 11 of diderent sizes are used. rllhese plates 12 and 13 are formed at their outer ends with pendant lugs or flanges 14 that are provided with a pair ot openings 15, Figure 2, whereby the same may be secured to the block 11 through the medium ot' wood screws 16.
The lowermost plate 13 is as shown by the dotted lines in Figure 2, formed upon its top side with a longitudinal rib or key 17 for sliding engagement within a longitudinal keyway 18 formed upon the bottom tace ot' the uppermost plate member 12 for obviously preventing any lateral displacement of these plates with respect to each other.
Further, each of these plates 12 and 13 is formed intermediate its ends with a relatively elongated slot 19 through which eX- tends the shank of a headed and screwthreaded bolt 20 thel head of this bolt being disposed within a longitudinal channel 21 upon the bottom side oi. the plate member 13, as more clearly shown in dotted lines in Figure 2.
The top side oi the uppermost plate 12 is formed centrally intermediate its ends with longitudinal rows of serrations or teeth 22 with which engage lugs 23 diametrically disposed upon the underside ot a disk 24 that is formed with a central opening for allowing the shank ot the bolt to extend therethrough. The top side of this disk is serrated and adapted for disposition thereon is a complementary disk 24 formed upon Y the front end ot the before mentioned broom handle attachment arm designated generally 7. This disk 24 is also formed with an opening for positioning over the bolt 20, and after the same has been positioned in a manner as shown in Figures 1 and 2, and the arm 7 moved to the desired position with respect to the broom head, a wing nut 25 is screwed downwardly upon the bolt for obviously rigidly connecting the disks 23 and 24 as well as the plates 12 and. 1,3,
The broom handle attachment arm 7 comprises as clearly shown in bFigure 1, a pair of n adjlietgibly` related l`sections for allowing the .broom handle 9 to` be moved to2. the def sired angle with respect to the broom head. It Will thus be seen that I have provided a highly novel anduseful--formof brush ofv the pushetypefand one-that Will7 I believe meetwith all of the requirements for zi Suoeessful commercial use.
Minor changes may be ymade within the. invention Without departing from the spirit end soope of the appendedelaim.
Having thus i described myl, zinvention,
vhat I claim 21S-new and, desire :to secure ,byi Letters Patent is z- IIi an artioleof the. class described, atwo- 25V,pfrtV oleimpl wherein the. p arts l are provided "fat their outer endsv Witlrvertically disposed VVpYYarttlevellingdizrnxfgfes, the horizontal portions of the wsaid parts being arranged in overlaplngi and Sliding relation, isaid "overlapped parts being provided with elongated registeredslots and with ecoaoting key and keyvvWay', 'the "upper "sideY dfthe otiterpart of the V.aforesaidteeth, a"bolt,passi-ngl through the 30 slot' and the` central. apertures in saidA disks,
land @retaining nutfthreaded on thefree' `rend of the bolt.
- Inf testimony whereof Ilafiix my signature DANIEL DOVE BooiNE.
