To all whom it may concern:
Be it hown that I, FREDERICK H. Rescues, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Arlington Heights, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Paintbrush, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements 1n detachable brush handles.
An important object of the invention is to provide a handle which can be eas1l and firmly attached to many styles of brus es.
Another object of the invention is to provide a durable and convenient handle which can be used with a number of sets of bristles.
Another object of the invention is to provide holding means for brushes which will be stron er and of better construction than the usual equipment thereof.
Other obgects and advantages of this invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of an assembled brush,

Figure 7 is a plan view of the assembled brush, and
Figure 8 is a plan view of one of the details.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 10 designates a casing which receives fa brush head 11, the sides being provided with indentations 12 for retaining the brush head 11 within the casing. The top of the casing has a semi-circular ridge 13 formed thereon and is provided with end apertures 14, and a central opening 15.
A threaded sleeve -16, provided with a transverse bore 17, is adapted to fit into the opening 15. Fitting slidably through the ridge l3 and the sleeve 16 is a connecting pin 18. The numeral 19 generally denotes the handle which is preferable constructed of aluminum or other like metahalthough wood or composition may be used satisfactorily. The lower part of the handle 19 is supported I) a base member 20 which has a groove 21 ormed therein for receiving the ridge 13. The upper portion of the handle assumes the usual hand gripping member 22, the extreme end 23 being made solid in order to reinforce the structure.
24 is the fastening rod, the upper end 25 of which is flattened and has a collar 26 rigidly secured thereto, a slight distance below the end in order to permit the locking key 27 to be positioned thereon. The lower end of the fastening rod 24 is screw threadigl as at 28 and is adapted to fit the sleeve In order to separate the brush members, the key 27 is fitted over the flattened end 25 of the rod 24 and turned, whereupon the sleeve 16 will permit the removal of the connecting pin 18. The casing 10 is detached from the handle 19, and the brush head 11 extracted. It is to be noted when the brush is fully assembled, the side walls of the casing 10 having the indentations 12 therein will be held close against the brush head 11 due to the pin 18 engaging and drawing the center of the top wall of the casing 10 upwardly, and when the casing 10 is removed from the handle the side walls of the casing will permit the head 11 to be removed therefrom. A new brush can then be forced into the casing 10 and the device assembled and used again.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the size, shape, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of m invention or the scope of the sub'oined c aims.
aving thus described my invention, I claim 1. In a device of the character described comprising a brush casing, a brush head having bristles therein secured in the easing, a handle member, a threaded sleeve having a transverse bore therein, a pin connecting the sleeve and casing, a
rod having one end threadedly fastening the casing to the said handle member, and means for turning the fastening rod.
2. In a device of the-character described comprising a brush casing, a brush head provided with bristles secured in the casing, a handle member, a threaded sleeve, a pin hingedly connecting the sleeve with the casing, a fastening meinber having one end threaded and fitting into the sleeve and the other end provided with a collar for fastening the casing and handle member, and means to permit turning of the fastening rod.
3. In a device of the character described comprising a brush casing, a ridge formed on the casin and means for securing a brush head in the said casing; a brush head, bristles fastened in the brush head; a
threaded sleeve havin through the lower en thereof; a infitting in the ridge of the casing and t rou h the sleeve; a handle member composed o a base plate having a groove for receiving the casing ridge, and a gripping member having the upper extremity partially solid with a circular recess formed therein; a fastening. rod having its lower end threaded and fitted into the sleeve, and the u per end flattened and provided with a co ar; said flattened portion adapted to be engaged for turning the fastening rod.
