To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ADAM P. lVrnIAnsKI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Yew York city, county of New York, and Fltate of New York, have invented certain new and useful lmprovementsin Scrubbing and ljleaning Implements, of which the followng is a specification.

T his invention relates to improvements in cleaning implements and has particular reference to a combined scrubbing, cleaning and scraping device employed for cleaning floors. walls. windows and the like.

Scrubbing brushes as ordinarily used are gripped by the hand and applied to a floor by the user while supported on the hands and knees thereby causing considerable strain and effort. While the user is working in such strained and awkward position, water and soap are applied to the floor and after the dirt has been loosened by the action of the scrubbing brush. the. dirty water is repeatedly taken up and rinsed in a pail of water which must be frequently renewed with added effort and expenditure of time.

Efforts have been made to use a scrubbing brush by means of a long handle attached thereto but even when so used it has been necessary to clean up the area gone over by the brush and furthermore the handle soon becomes loose from the head of the brush.

It has also been the practice to employ scrubbing brushes with long handles and to attach to the brush some form of cleaning or scraping device which is usually connected to the brush in such manner that it cannot be readily removed.

An object of the present invention is to provide an improved implement in which a long handle is securely maintained in connection with the top of the implement and wherein said body is constructed to permit of the ready attachment and dots. :hinert of a cleaning and scraping device thereto.

Another object is the provision of an implement of the above character which is simple in construction, easy to manufacture, and effective in carrying out the purposes for which it is designed.

The above and other objects will appear more clearly from the following detail description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing which illustrates a preferred embodiment of the inventiy e idea.

In the form illustrated in the drawing, the invention is shown as comprising a body 6, preferably made of wood and ofsubstantial rectangular formation. To the bottom face of this body, which forms a supporting block, there is attached a scrubbing brush 7 preferably secured to the body 6 by means of screws 8 or other suitable fasteners which will permit of the removal of said brush from the body when the brush becomes worn so that the same may be replaced by a new brush.

The body 6 is provided, preferably in proximity to the center thereof, with an inclined opening 9 extending therethrough from the upper to the lower surface and capable of receiving an end of the handle 10 which may be of any desired length. the end of the handle projecting into said body is beveled as indicated at 11 and is engageable with the surface of the brush 7 in contact with the under surface of the body 6. When so constructed and arranged, the end of the handle 10 fri-ctionally contacts the wall of the opening 9 and by forming the end of said handle with a bevel it will be apparent that said handle will be securely maintained in position in the body and prevented from turning therein.

The body 6 is further provided, preferably in its front face, with a recess or chansimilar view in top plan;

The recess 12 communicates with the front face of the body 6 through the restricted portion 13 of said recess. This recess 12 is capable of receiving a cleaning and scraping device consisting of av rigid handle portion 14 shaped to conform to the contour of the recess 12 and made of a diameter which will permit said handle portion to fit snugly in said recess and at the same time )ermit of its removal from the body w eneverl desired at which time said portion 14 may be securely grasped in the hand. This handle portion 14 is provided with the reduced extension or shank 15 which is capable of engagement in the reduced portion 13 of the recess-when the handle portion 14 is mounted in the body. The shank 15 is formed with a longitudinally extending groove 16 in which is mounted one edge of a flexible member 17 generally known as a squeegee, secured in position in said groove by means of suitable fasteners such as screws 18. An implement of the class described including a body having a recess extending longitudinally thereth'rough, said recess having an enlarged portion and a restricted portion communicating with one face of said body, a cleaning'and scraping device" having a portion serving as a rigid handle of a diameter to be securely grasped in the hand to permit of the device being' us'ed separately from said body, said handle portion corresponding in shape to that of said re= cess and engageable in said recess, and said device having a movement longitudinally of said recess to permit of the same being detached from said body.
