I would state in conclusion that while the illustrated examples constitute practical embodiments of my invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the exact details herein illustrated, since, manifestly, the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, 1 claim: 7

1. A package carrier comprising a pair of bars adapted to be disposed at the 0pposite sides of the packages, sleeves turn- ,able on said bars at the ends thereof, said sleeves affording a zone adapted to be grasped by the hands of the persons using the carrier, means on the sleeves to be engaged by the hand grasping the sleeves to turn the sleeves on the rods, means on the sleeves adapted to engage and grip the sides of the package, and flexible elements connecting the sleeves at the corresponding ends of the bars, so that the turning of the sleeves on the bars will wind or unwind said flexible elements.

2. A package carrier comprising bars adapted to be disposed at opposite sides of a package, transverse flexible elements disposed between the bars, and means to cause winding up 01 said flexible elements in convolntio-ns disposed about the axes of the bars l 3. A package carrier comprising bars adapted to be disposed at opposite sides of a package, transverse flexible elements disposed between the bars, and means to cause winding up of said flexible elements in convolutions disposed about the axes of the bars, together with means to automatically grip the package with the winding of the chains and the shortening of the distance between the sides.

A package carrier comprising bars adapted to be disposed at opposite sides of the package, gripping means directly on the transverse flexible elements disposed bars, between the bars, and means to cause winding up of said flexible elements in convolutions disposed about the axes of the bars.

6. A package carrier comprising bars adapted to be disposed at opposite sides of a package, sleeves turnable on the bars at each end and adapted to be grasped, and exible elements extending transversely between and secured to said sleeves to wind thereon by the turning of the sleeves, together with means on the sleeves adapted to be engaged by the hands of the users of the carrier for bringing about the turning 100 movement of the sleeves.

7. A package carrier comprising longitudinal bars adapted to be disposed at opposite sides of the package, sleeves. turnable on the bars at each end and adapted to be 105 grasped, means on the sleeves adapted to be en aged by the hands for turning the sleeves, approximately radial spurs on the sleeves adapted to engage the package, and
