UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BQX OR CONTAINER.
Application filed December 24, 1923. Serial No. 682,447.
1 '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK M. PIKE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Stowe, in the county of Lamoille and State of Vermont, have invented a new and Improved Box or Container, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in containers, boxes, and the like, and it pertains more particularly to a device of this character especially adapted for use for containing confections and the like.
It is one of the primary objects of the present invention to construct a box or container in the form of a book.
It is a further object of the invention to construct the box in such a manner that as one of the covers, in imitation of a book cover, is swung about a hinged point, the box will be opened or closed dependent upon the movement of such cover.
With the above and other objects in view, reference is had to the accompanying drawin s, in which igure 1 is a perspective view of a container constructed in accordance with the present invention, and
Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
In carrying out the invention the edge wall of the container which forms the back of the imitation book is designated by the reference numeral 5. This edge Wall has a curved outer face and is provided on its side edges with rabbeted portions 6. Mounted in one of the rabbeted portions 6 is a stationary side wall 7 in imitation of one of the covers of the book, and secured thereto is an edge wall in opposed relation with the edge Wall 5, this second-mentioned wall being designated by the reference character 8. This edge Wall has a curved outer surface 9 in 45 imitation of book leaves. Lying in the other rabbeted portion 6 of the member 5,isa member 10, in imitation of a book cover, and such member 10 is hingedly connected to the member 5 by a flexible binding 11 formed of cloth, paper, or the like. To complete the booklike appearance, end walls 11 are provided, and such Walls are formed in imitation of the leaves of a book. A suitable fastening designated by the reference numeral 13, is carried by the cover member 10, and by this means the hinged cover 10 is: retained in closed position.
From the foregoing it is apparent that the present invention provides a new and improved form of container in imitation of a book, and that such container may be opened for access to the interior thereof in the same manner as is a book.
l/Vhat is claimed is:
1. A container formed in imitation of a book, said container comprising a thickened back member having oppositely disposed rabbete-d edges, a cover stationarily mounted in one of said rabbeted members, end walls, and a side wall secured to said stationary cover, said end walls and side wall having their exposed surfaces formed in imitation of leaves of a book, and a. pivoted cover mounted in the other of said rabbeted por tions of the back member.
2. A container formed in imitation of a book, said container comprising a thickened back member having oppositely disposed rabbeted members, a cover stationarily mounted in one of said ra-bbeted members, end walls, and a side wall secured to said stationary cover, said end walls and side wall having their exposed surfaces formed in imitation of leaves of a book. a pivoted cover mounted in the other of said rabbeted portions of the book member, and a flexible binding hingedly connecting the hinged cover to the back member.
