UNITED STATES JOHN STODOLNY, OF FINDLATER, SASKATCHEWAN, CANADA.
FIGURE WHEELED TOY.
Application filed January 24, 1923.
To all who/nt t may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOHN SToDoLNr, a citizen of Ukraine, residing at Findlater. Province of Saskatchewan, and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Figure lVheeled Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in toys, particularly wheeled toys in which the rotation of the wheel, while the toy is trundled over the floor by a child, will operate figures performing mechanical labor.
It is the principal object of the invention to provide a toy including two figures holding` saws and simulating the movement of two persons operating saws while the toy is moved over a floor.
Other objects and advantages of my invention will become more fully known as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be specifically pointedV out in the appended drawing.
In the accompanyingdrawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a toy constructed according to the present invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view' thereof.
The toy comprises a platform 10 resting with its rear end on a beam 11 having reduced ends to form axles 12 and 13 for the wheels 14 and 1.5 rotatably held thereon .in any well known manner. A longitudinally disposed center beam 16 is supported at one end in the beam 11 while its opposite end is extended beyond the vehicle as at 17. Platform 10 is attached to beam 11, to which is also attached a platform 18 in front of platform l0 and extending beyond the side edges thereof.
The fastening' means, for instance as shown nails 19 holding both platform l() and 18 together are also passed through an intermediary plate 20 between beam 16 and platforms 10, 18.
rlhe outer side faces of wheels 14 and 15 carry projecting pins 21 and 22 to which are pivotally secured the outer ends of saw blades 23 and 24 respectively, held in place on pins 21 and 22 by means of cotter pins- 25 and 26 respectively.
The opposite end of the blade 23 is pivotally secured by means of a pin 27 between the ends of arms 28 and 29 a Serial No. 614,597.
toy figure 30. 28, 29 are pivotally secured by means of a pin 81 to the body part of the figure 30. Legs 32 are pivoted to the body portion 8O by means of pins 33, while the feet 3aof the legs are pivotally secured to the outer side edge of platform 18 by means of a pin or nail 35.
In a similar manner the free end of saw blade 24 is secured between the lower ends of the'arms 36 of a second figure 37 on the opposite side of platform 18 by means of a pin 38. The upper ends of arms 36 are pivoted to the. body of figure 87 by means of a pin 39, while the legs of figure 3T are pivoted to the body part by means of a pin 40, and the feet 41 of figure 37 are pivoted to the side edge of platform 18 by means of a nail 42 orthe like.
The operation of the device will be clear from the above description, while ythe child trundles the toy over the floor by taking hold of the end of beam or bar 17, the rotation of the wheels will be communicated to the figures which will imitate the movements of a man handling the saw much to thc anniscment of the child.
-llaving thus described my invent-ion, which I claim as new. and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
A toy comprising a platform, a transverse beam secured to the front end thereof, supporting wheels rotatably mounted on the projecting ends of said beam, a longitudinally disposed handle beam secured to the transverse beam at its front end, a transversely extending platform positioned at the rear end of the vfirst mentioned platform and projecting laterally in opposite directions therefrom, an intermediate spacer plate interposed between the said platforms and the handle beam. means for connecting the platforms, spacer plate, and handle beam. a jointed figure pivotally secured to each end of the second mentioned platform, a saw blade pivotally attached to each jointed figure, and a laterally projecting eccentric pin carried by each 'supporting wheel to each of which the outer end of one saw blade is pivotally attached.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
JOHN STODOLNY.
