JUVENILE GAR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 16, 1920.
Application filed. March 1, 1920. Serial No. 362,482.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ANDREW S. JoNns, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Spokane, in thecounty of Spokane and State of Washington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Juvenile Cars, of which the following is a specification.
This invention pertains to juvenile cars of the character propelled either by gravity or by contact of the feet of the rider with the pavement, and has for its object to provide a car of the character mentioned that may be adjusted for different sized children as well as adjustable for riding sitting down or standing up Other and further objects and purposes will be disclosed by the detail description hereinafter given and in the appended claims. In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification,
Figure 1, is a side elevation of the car with the seat shown in the highest position.
F ig. 2, is a top plan view thereof.
Fig. 3, is a rear elevation thereof.
4 is a sectional view taken on the line il-45 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5, is a broken away sectional view showing the manner of adjusting the seat to an angular support.
Fig. 6, is a side elevation of the car showing the seat in a position lower than that shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 7, is a side elevation of the car showing the seat adjusted to the extreme low,
position to serve as a support for the feet when riding in a standing position, and
Fig. 8, is a broken-away longitudinal sectional view of Fig. 7
In a detail description in which lflie numerals refer to like parts throughout the several views, a pair of horizontal bars 10 are set on an angle and with their near ends secured to a block 11 by means of bolts 12, and their far ends engaging the rear axle 13 of the car and held in their lateral position by means of a block 14L over the rear axle 13 to which they are secured as by? means of nails 15. Rear wheels 16 are placed over the ends of the axle 13, washers 17 placed on the outside thereof, and cotter pins 18 inserted through the axle 13 to retain the wheels and washers. At the front of the car is an upright shaft 19 provided with a handle bar 20 at the top. To the sides of the shaft 19 at the bottom are secured plates 21 asby nails 22, the plates 21 extendlng downwardly beyond the end of the shaft 19, and an axle 23 mounted across and through the same, which supports a front wheel 24.. Near midway of the bars 10 a bolt 25 supports a rockable shaft 26. Near the front of the bars 10 a bolt 27 retains the lower end of a support 28. The support 28 has a number of openings 29 there through. To the top of the shaft 26 is secured by a hinge 30, the seat 31 of the car. To the front end of the seat 31 is secured a plate 32 as by means of nails 33. This plate has an angular portion 34. adapted to fit the inclined wall of the support 28, and a thumb screw 35, extending through said angular portion 34c and through one of the openings 29 in the support 28, secures the seat and support together in rigid relation ship. A late 36 having a central, longitudinal slot 37 and an opening 38, is socured to the support 28 by means of a thumb screw 39 passing through the slot 37 and through one of the openings 29 in the support 28 and is secured to the shaft 19 by} means of a hook 4O driven into said shaft, which engages the opening 38 in the plate 36. The horizontal bars 10 are secured at their front ends to the shaft 19 by means of a plate 41 secured tothe block 11, as by means of bolts 42, which is curved upwardly at its front end and provided with an opening 43 which engages a hook 4C4 driven into the shaft 19.
The seat 31 is adjustable to a. higher or lower position by means of its hinged connection with the rockable shaft 26 and its bolted connection with the support 28. The handle bar 20 is adjustable to meet the adjustment of the seat31 by means of the slotted plate 36, whereby the thumb screw is changed in its position in the slot 37 which changes the angle of the shaft 19. Fig. 1 shows the seat adjusted to its highest position with the rockable supporting shaft 26 at a slight angle from the perpendicular and the thumb screw 39 at the lower end of the slot 37 in the plate 36. Fig. 6 shows the seat 31 adjusted to an intermediate position with the supporting rockable shaft 26 at a greater angle from the perpendicular and the thumb screw 39 occupying an intermediate position in the slot 37 of the plate 36, and Figs. 7 and 8 show the seat 31 at its lowest adjustable position with the rockable supporting shaft 26 folded underneath to a .1. A juvenile oar comprisin front and rear wheels 'rotatablymonnted upon axles, a shaft connected wlth and extending np wardly from the front axle, substantially horizontal-bars connected with therear axle and pivotallyjoined with the said shaft, a support connected with thesaid bars extending upwardly and pivotallyjoined with 7 said shaft, a rockable shaft connected with andextending upwardly from said bars, to the top of which is hinged a seat, said seat being also attached to said upwardly extendingv support.
2. A; juvenile car compr sing front. and
extending support. 1
rear wheels rotatably mounted upon axles,
a shaft connected with and extending up wardly from the front axle and having a handle bar at the top thereof, substantially horizontal bars connected with the rear axle and pivotally joined with the said-shaft, a
support connected with the said hars, ex-
tendingnpwardly and pivotally j oined with said shaft, a rockable shaft connected with and extending-npwandly from-said bars,
at the top of which is hinged ,a seat, said seat being :also attached to said npwardly In testimony whereo ture in presence of'two witnesses.
