Be itknown that I, GUSTAF A. PARSONS, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in llheelbarrows; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to a wheelbarrow and particularly though not necessarily to that type used by children as toys.

It is aimed to provide a simple, strong,

durable and inexpensive construction.

L Particularly it is an object to provide one in which the legs and bars of the frame are efliciently braced in a novel manner and also one in which an ordinary bolt may be used` for the aXle of the ground Wheel so that the ground wheel may be readily removed for repair or substitution.

Additional objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the description following taken in connection with accompanying drawings illustratin@ one practical embodiment.

Like reference characters designate like or similar parts in the different views. In reducing the invention to practice, two

supporting bars are provided at 10, which are relatively close together at their forward ends and have a bolt 11 detachably passing therethrough on which a ground wheel 12 is 410 journaled and which is operable intermediate the bars. Bars 10 diverge rearwardly from the bolt 11 so that they will be wider apart at their rear ends and the extremities thereof as at 13 will constitute grips or handles. A carrying body of suitable design as suggested at 14 is adapted to be supported on the bars 13. Spanning the bars 10 in the rear of the wheel 12 is a cross bar 15 and nails or other securing elements 16 may be Serial No. 560,125.

Legs 18 are provided adjacent the rear end of the body 14 having their upper ends in contact therewith and being bolted or otherwise secured as at 19 to the bars 10. Adjacent the lower ends of legs 18, brace strips 2O span and are secured to them.

Bracing bars 21 are also employed which are bolted as at 22 to the legs 18 adjacent their lower ends and as at 23 to the bars 10. The upper ends of bars 21 are shaped to 65 snugly fit the under surface of the body 10 and the adjacent surface of the bar 15. It will be seen that as a result of this construction, the legs 28 are securely braced against strain in practically all directions.

The structure is particularly adapted fori use by children but it is to be understoodl that the novel features thereof may be embodied in wheelbarrows of all sizes and for all purposes.

As is obvious, the wheelbarrow is adapted to be pushed by the operator through engagement with the handles 13 after elevating the same to raise the legs 18 out of contact with the ground.

As merely one practical embodiment has been illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.

I claim as my invention A wheelbarrow having supporting bars, a ground wheel journaled thereon, said supporting bars diverging rearwardly from said ground wheel to space the rear ends of the bars apart so that they will constitute handles, a bar spanning said supporting bars yin the rear of and relatively close to said wheel, a body resting on said transverse bar adjacent its forward end, said body adjacent its rear end being in contact with the supporting bars, legs depending from said body having their upper ends in abutment with the under surface of the body, said legs being secured to said supporting bars, brace bars secured to the supporting bars at a distance from the legs and intermediate the legs and said transverse bar, said brace bars being secured to the legs adjacent their lower ends, and said brace bars extending above the supporting bars and at their adj acent ends being in abutting Contact with the body and said transverse bar. 10 In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
