To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN G. PAGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brawley, in the county of Imperial and Stateof California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Wheelbarrows, of which the following is. a specification.
This invention is an improved wheel barrow, especially adapted for use for carrying building materials, earth and other like material, the invention consisting in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed. 7 One object of the invention is to effect improvements in the construction of the frame. Another object of the invention is to effect improvements in the construction of the Another object is to effect improvements in the construction of the braces.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a side elevation of awheel barrow constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is an inverted plan of the same. Fig. 4 is a vertical transverse sectional view on the plan indicated by the line aa of Fig. 1. The body of the wheel barrow is made of sheet metal'and has upturned inclined sidesv and ends so that it' can be dumped from the front or from either side. T he bottom is flat. The entire body may be made of a siny gle piece.
The handles 1 are formed integrally with said sides and handles being formed from a V-shaped tube which may in practice be a suitable length of iron or gas pipe. The handles are upturned as shown and the sides 2 of the frame are formed with downwardly and forwardly inclined offset portions 3.
The wheel 4 is arranged in the bight or apex of the frame, between the forwardly converging portions of the-sides 2 and its axle 5 is mounted in bearings 6 in semitubular blocks 7 which are arranged on the under sides of. the forwardly projecting portions of the frame.
A cross bar 8 which in practice is a fiat metallic strip or bar, connects the rear portions of the side members2 of the frame and "$612M. tie-ii, or BRAWLEY, CA

I eyes 9 through whichsaid side members extend. On the under side of this cross bar are a pair of standards 10 each of which is substantially U- shaped, and is bent from a single strip or bar of metal. Each leg has oppositely extending lugs 11 at its upper end. ,The outer lugs of the legs are arranged in the open of the cross bar Sand at sides of the eyes 9 the members 2, the inner the inner sides of lugs of the legs being arranged in ping relation, 'oneupon' the other. Bolts 12 are passed through the overlapping portions of the eyes, the lugs and up through the bar and through the bottom of the sheet or plate metal body 14, so that said bolts not only secure the legs to the cross bar but also seoverlapcure the eyes around the side members, 2' and secure the body of the wheel barrow on said cross bar. A front cross bar 15 which is also made of a strip or flat bar of metal, is ar ranged at a suitable distance in advance'of the bar 8, bears under the bottom of the body and is formed with eyes 16' which embrace the side members 2. Braces 17 have their upper ends secured in the open sides of said eyes and their rear ends secured'in the lower ends of the legs, bolts 18 being employed to secure the braces to the legs and bolts 19 being employed to secure the braces to the cross bar 15 to also secure the eyes 16 and to secure the body of the wheel barrow on r the said crossbar 15.
It Wlll be observed and understood that my improved wheel barrow is entirely con-- structed of metal, is extremely strong and durable, and may be readily manufactured at slight cost.
Having thus claim In va wheel barrow a V-shaped tubular frame having its rear ends upturned and bent to form handles,'cross bars connecting the side members ofsaid frame and having eyes engaging said side members, a body.
described my invention, I
