CARL OLOF HGGMAN, or sTooKHoLM, swnnnn.
rnousnns ASTRE'ICHER.
Application filed March 26, 1923. Serial No. 627,844.
To all whom- "it wmgz concern:
Be it known that I, CARL OLor HiiGMAN, a subject of the King of Sweden, and resident of Riddaregatan 39, Stockholm, in the Kingdom of Sweden, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers Stretchers, of which the following is a specification.
This to trousers invention relates I stretchers, of that type, which are provided with two pair of bars, the operative surfaces of which are shaped substantially in conformity with the trouser legs and which are connected with a lever or expanding device, by which, when actuated in a certain direction, the said bars, controlled at their one end by a guide, are moved from each other by pairs and thus stretch the legs transversally.
The present invention relates to trousers stretchers of the above character wherein a support is provided for the guide and is positioned between the guide and the pivoted bars, the support being arranged so as to permit swinging of the guide when a pair of trousers is being arranged on the stretcher and is adapted to be engaged by the guide so as to prevent accidental movement subsequent to the arranging of the stretcher parts in an extended or set up position.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing. Fig. 1 is a side view of the stretcher. Figs. 2 to inclusive show details on a greater scale. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the stretcher, partially a section on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1. Figs. 4 and 5 are sections on the lines 4-4 and 55 respectively of Fig. 2.
1 is a guide consisting of a frame, to the one end of which a fork shaped member 2 having long shanks 2 and 2 is pivoted. A similar member 3 having long shanks 8 and 3 straddles the opposite end of the frame 1 The shanks 2 and 3 are, substantially at their centre, pivotally connected with the one end of links at and 5 respectively, the other ends of said links being pivotally connected with a rod 6, by means of which the stretcher is actuated. The shanks 2 and 3 are connected by similar links, not shown in the drawing, with a second rod 6. Rods 6 and 6 are connected at their top ends and constitute a fork shaped actuating member, provided with a hook 7 or the like by means of which the stretcher may be suspended. A single rod, the lower end of which is fork shaped, may evidently be substituted for the member 6, 6. The said member 6, 6 is provided at one of its sides with teeth 8 or the like, which may be brought into engagement with a transverse pin 9 or the like, fixed in the frame 1. By means of a looking device, consisting for instance of a screwthreaded bolt 10 slidable in slots 11 and provided with a winged nut 12, the toothed parts of the rods 6 and 6 may be forced against the pin 9, so that the member 6, 6 is held in adjusted position. Between the guide and the pair of shanks or bars 2 and 2 pivoted to the guide, a support is provided, which normally prevents the guide from tumbling down towards the said pair of bars and thus imparts firmness to the stretcher. In the form shown in the drawing the said support consists of an angular member 13, the one shank of which is fixed to the fork shaped member 2 and the other shank of which extends downwards between the side pieces of the frame 1 and at its lower end is provided with shoulders, supporting the said side pieces. At tightening the nut 12 the side pieces of the frame 1 are forced in an increased degree against the member 13, which thus normally prevents the guide from falling down towards the bars 2 and 2 Therefore, when the stretcher is to be clasped the guide is forced over the shoulders of the support which is possible due to the elasticity of the guide members.
As the stretcher described above is to be used the one pair of bars 2 and 3 is threaded into the one leg of the trousers and the other pair of bars 2 and 3 into the other leg, the nut 12 being loosened and the bolt 10 moved from the actuating member 6, 6, which has been moved upwards and thus has brought the bars 3 and 3" closer to the bars 2 and 2". After the said bars for their whole length have been introduced into the legs of the trousers, the actuating member 6, 6 is moved in such direction longitudinally, that the bars are forced from each other by the links 4: and 5 acting like toggle levers, so that the trousers legs are stretched transversely. The teeth of the members 6, 6 is now brought into engagement with the pin 9 and thehnember is locked in this position, the stretcher being then suspended by means of the hook 7 I claim 1. A trouser' stretcher including a guide; .1W0 pairs of bars, onepair of said bars being.
pivoted at one end to said guide while the other pair is freely movable-along thegu-ide,
a toggle lever device for moving said pairs of bars toward and away from each'other, and a support between the guide and @the pair of pivoted bars for normally retaining the guideain; vitswproper position when; the"- stretcher is: inuse. K
2. A trouser stretcher as claimed in @clai-m 1, :wherein the, guide consists of spaced side 3. A trouser stretchersas claimedin clainr 1,;wherein the guide consists .of spaced bars providedwith opposed slots, a catch member arranged between the bars of the guide, the toggle-"lever deviceincluding an actuating member provided with teeth for engagement withthe catch member, and a bolt and nut arrangement slidablein the slots in the bars of the guide for maintaining the actuating member in engagement with the catch member.-
In testimony whereof I have afiixed'my signature in :presence of two witnesses.
CAR-L OLOF HOGMAN.
