To .allwhom it may-concern:
= the latter is maintained ready'for instant Be itknown thatzI; MIKE JAKA'B', a subject ofthe King vofElungary,residing at-lVgood lands in the .county of Washington'and State of Maine, have. invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Combined Garment Stretchers and Hangers, of which the following is aspecification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvementsin combined garment stretcher and hanger.
Thenprimary object of the present invention is the provision of a device adapted for stretching clothing-such as trousers and also to arrange the same in a suspended position during-the stretching operation:
further object ofthe'device is the-pmvision ofia hanger adapted formounting a garment thereon and for maintaining the:
garment 1 in a stretched condition whereby release and at which time the same is ready for use.
With these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the inventitln is better understood; the same con the central adJustment maintaining portion of the device,
Fig. 6 is a transverse sectional View taken upon line VI--VI of Fig. 1 and Fig. 7 is an enlarged sectional view througha portion of one of the clamping members.
Referring more in detail to the drawings, the device consists of opposite ends or crossheads 10 and 11 provided with centrally projecting plates 12 and 13 respectively, the plate 12 being bifurcated having side portions 14 forming an opening 15 therebetween struction,
in whichthe plate 13 in the form of a tongue is. sliclably. arranged? Thelma-e110 is o figreater Width than the head; 11 being provided with a garment clamp .16 of greater. length'than the clamp:
17 with which the head His provided; itbeing understood that suspending hooks 18 are Provided upon the head 10: whereby the device 'is adapted to .be maintained with'the longercl'ampnltl uppermost with the Wider portion ofthe garment such as the belt portionofa'pair of trousers, secured therein.
-The ton-guelB is adjustably hinged ito the plate 12 by means of a cross-pin 19 extend ing througlrthe-tongue 13 and slidably arranged within the longitudinal slots .20 provided in the bifurcated S1d'8s=14: 0th81 said plate and conunu'nicating with the central opening- 15. thereof; Toothedmaclis 21 are provided upon=one side of thepiate .12 sub= stantially throughoutthelength.of the openingelegw'the teethof which are adaptedi-for. engagement .by a transverse pin 22: carriedbythe-tongue '13 it'being understoodzthat the tongue 13 may be adjusted relatively of the plate 12=and-the pin22 engaged w-ith tl-re sists in the novel construction, combinatiom-H jh ii rack 000 h 21- A ready means for reception of the link 23 when the plate andtongue are arranged in a single plane and whereby as will be evident, relative inward movement as well as pivotal movement of the rack 21 and tongue 18 will be prevented.
The clamps 16 and 17 are of similar coneach being formed of a bar 26 hinged to a similar bar 27 at one end by means of a link 28. A clamping member is arranged between the opposite ends of the bars 26 and 27 being in the form of a swinging bolt 29 carried by the bar 27 for movement inwardly and outwardly of an end slot 30 in the bar 26, an adjusting nut 31 bein threaded upon the bolt 29 while a cushioning washer 32 is positioned upon the bolt for engaging within a seat 33 in said slotted end of the bar 26. The assembling of the head 10, plate 12 and clamp 16 as herein illustrated consists of providing a reduced extension 34 upon the plate 12 which (iii centrally projects into andis secured to the head 10 while. this extension also projects through'th'e bar 27 E of the" clamp 16,,dow'el pins being carried by the head 10 and arranged within. the sockets. 36of the said bar 27. The clamp 17 is attached to the head 11 by means of a reduced extension 37 which is secured within the bar' 27 of the clamp 17.
The complete operation of the de vi'ce'will be at once apparent from this detailed de scription thereof it being understood that the wider portion of the garment suchas the waist band portion of a pair of trousers is secured within the wider clamp 16 while the narrower portion thereof such as the bottoms of the trousers legs are firmly secured within the shorter clamp 17. The link 23 being released, the plate 12 and tongue 13 are bent at an angle to each other and'thereafter straightened out forcing the members apart by opposite longitudinal movements, thereby ratcheting the pin 22 over the teeth 21 until the garment is desirably tensioned and at which time the link 23 will be moved toward the tongue 13 enaging the link within the notch 25 thereof.
he garment 'in this manner will be maintained'in its stretched condition between the clamps 16 and 17 and the device with the garment so mounted thereon maybe readily hung up by means of the-hooks 18 until the garment isdesired for use and at which time the same is readily removed upon releasing the clamps16 and 17. A serviceable garment hanger for stretching the garment is provided, combining the functions of, a stretcher and 'a hanger in 'a' unitary device and While the present embodiment thereof is believed to be preferable, it will be under stood that changes may be made therein if desired which Wlll not depart from the spirit and sco pe of the invention as now claimed.
' What I claim as new is A garment hanger and stretcher comprising a head, a plate carried thereon and projecting therefrom having. a'bifurcated free end portion: forming an opening therein, the bifurcations of saidplate being longitudinally slotted in aplane transversely of said opening, ratcheting teeth carried by said bifurcations at opposite sides of the opening, a relatively smaller head, a tongue projecting from said smaller head slidably arranged Within the said opening and having-a notch in its free end, a transverse pin carried by said tongue slidably arranged through'the said slots, 21 further pin carried by said tongue adapted for engaging the said teeth when the plate and tongue are in their rela' tive adjusting positions,- a link slidably ar ranged "through said slots uponsaidbifurcations adapted for positioning Within said notch whenlt'he device is operatively. *posi; t-ioned "and garment positioning clamps care riedby the said heads.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature;
MIKE JAKAB;
