Description
A. W. LORD.
WIRE STRETCHER.
APPLxcATloN man 050.13. |919.
1 ,354,203. Patented Sept. 28, 1920,
W/WESSES I 5 gwoon/fo:
. eee fQMC/@LQ/Ww" UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANDY W. LORD, OF GERSTER, EITEISSOUR wmnsfmn'rcrinn.
Tol all whom t may concer/n Be it known that l, ANDY WV. Loin), a citizen of the United States, residing at Gerster, in the county of St. Clair and State of llissouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lVire-Stretchers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a wire stretcher and has for its principal object the production of a device of the class described which will engage a plurality of strands of wire without in any way bending or injuring them.
Another object of this invention is the production of means for quickly attaching the wire stretcher to a plurality of strands of wire.
A still further obj ect of this invention is the production of a pulling means which will engage the stretcher at a plurality of points so as to cause the stretching of a plurality of strands of wire to be uniform.
With these and other objects in view, this invention consists of certain novel combinations, constructions and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described.
n the accompanying drawings,
Figure 1 is a top plan view of my device, showing the same attached to a plurality of strands of wire.
Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. l.
Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a section taken on the line 4 4 of Fig. 3 andV Y Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the hinged pulling member. y
By referring to the drawings by numerals, it will be seen that 1 designates a plurality of strands of wire which are connected to a horizontal strand of wire so as to form a fence or to be used for some other suitable purpose. My invention consists of the clamping bars 2 and 3. The clamping'bar 3 is provided with a plurality of openings 4 so as to receive the bolt 5 which is threaded at the ends so as to receive the nut 6 and the washer 7. Provided between the washer 7 and the bar 2 is the clip 8. This clip 8 is substantially diamond shaped for a purpose hereinafter described. The upper bar 2 is provided with an aperture which is substantially diamond shaped as shown at in the drawing especially Fig. 1. The diamond Specification of Letters Patent. Patgntd Spt. 28, 192() Application filed December 13, 1919.
Serial No. 344,690.
shaped opening is elongated so as to forni an aperture registering with the opening 4 in the lower bar This construction is clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing. It will be seen that when the bars are clamping the plurality of strands of wire 1 the diamond shaped clips will be in the position shown in Fig. l of the drawing. lf the strands of wire are to be brought out of engagement with the bars 2 and 3 it will be seen that the nut 6 may be slightly loosened and the plank 2 moved so as to allow the clips 8 to register with the diamond shaped opening 9. Vhen in this position it will be seen that the clip 8 may be rotated so that same will pass through the opening 9. lVhen in this position the bar 2 is free to be lifted from out of engagement with the strands of wire and the bar 3.
rlhe means for pulling the bars 2 and 3 consist of the center rod 10 which is provided at one end with the loop 1l, the end of which is connected to the shank'of the rod by means of the rivet 12 which passes through the side rods 14. Adjacent the other end of the central rod 10 is positioned the hinged member 15 which is provided with the hooked portion 16, which has a lip 17. It should be understood thatJ the hinged member 15 is situated at a distance from the end of the central rod 10 and has its hinged end bent so as to form a sleeve 18 which receives the pin 19. The end of the center rod 10 is provided with the cut out lip 29 which is bent so as to form a sleeve which receives the pin 19 as is very clearly shown in Fig. 5 of the drawing.
The sidev rods 14 extend from the rivet 12 at an angle of about 30 degrees from the'central rod 10. The free ends of the side rods 14 are provided with hooks 21 which engage the bars 2 and 3. It should be under stood that the central rods 10 extend over the top of the bar 2 and the lip 17 engages the bar 3, whereas the side rods 14 extend over the face of the bar 3 while the hooks 21 engage both the bars 2 and S. There is provided a chain 22 which is enga-ged with the loop 11 so that any suitable pulling means may be used for pulling the device.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is 1. In a device of the class described, the combination of clamping means and a pullring frame, a central rod' and side rods provided in said frame, one end of said central rod bent so as to form a loop, the end of said loop provided vWith an aperture adapted to register with an aperture provided in tlie body portion of said central rod, the ends of said side rods provided withv apertures, whereby a rivet may be passed lthrough all of said apertures for holding said rods in pivote relation "with onel an.-
other.
combination of clamping means and a'pulling frame, said pulling frame comprising a central rod and side rods, said rods being pivotally connected together, the tree ends of said side rods provided With hooks for engaging said clamping means, a hinged hook provided upon the free end of said centerrod'so that said end may be placed in engagement with said clamp after the liooks of said siderods are in engagement.V
3. ln a device of the class described, the.
2. ln a device or". the class described, the
combination of clamping means and a pulling frame, said pulling frame comprising a central rod and side rods, said side rods pivotally connected With said central rod,
`the free ends of s'aidside rod provided with hooks for engaging said clamping means, Y
thelfree ends of said central rod provided with a cut out lip bent so as to form a sleeve, a hinged hook, said hinged hook provided With a sleeve so as to be in pivotal engagement with the lip said central rod, Whereby said central rod may be placed in engagement with the clamping means after the books of the side rod arein engagement
