SANITARY, COMMODE CHAIR.
Application filed December 17, 1921. serialfNo. 523,146.
To all wiz-0m t may concern.'
Be it known that I, CLEWENTINE L. Horn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Commode Chairs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a sanitary commode chair.
The primary object of the invention is to construct a portable sanitary toilet or commode particularly adapted for use in nurseries and sick rooms.
Another object is the means provided for removably holding a one piece porcelain catch tank, having large filleted corners adapted to be readily cleaned and maintained in sanitary condition.
These and other objects are attained by the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure and in which Figure 1, is a top plan view with the sliding cover broken away showing the opening into the tank and the supplementary wooden seat fitting about the opening.
Figure 2, is a front elevational view of the same, with part of front broken away showing interior parts.
Figure 3, is a sectional view taken on the line 3 3 of Figure 2, and Figure 4 is a fragmental elevation showing a childs tray attached to an arm of theichair.
Referring tothe drawing in detail, the numeral 10 designates generally a one-piece porcelain tank having a shaped opening 11 and provided with rounded edges 12.
Interiorly of the tank are fillets as at 13 and 14 formed at all corners and adjacent angles, providing means for readily cleaning and maintaining the tank in sanitary condition.
A flange 15 extends around the front and sides of the tank and is adapted to fit into receptive rabbets formed in the frame elements 16. A depression following the outline of the opening 11, is formed in the top of the tank, and divided removable wooden seat members 17 and 17 are adapted to fit therein.
The tank as described is removably secured in a frame-like structure having a rear door 30 engaged by the hinges 31 and provided with a catch 32.
A top 18 is provided with pins 19 fixed in the forward end and slidable in closed end grooves 20 formed in the inner edges of the transverse members 21 of the seat frame. These end members project from the rear and permit the seatto slide backward and be dropped down, uncovering the tank opening, the pins 19 acting as hinge pins operable in the grooves 20. Rubber buffers 33 are provided for the seat to rest against when in dropped position. front end frame members 22 extend above the seat and connect with arms 23, the rear ends of which are engaged with rear end frame upright 24, between which cross bars are arranged to form a chair back generally designated as 25.
Referring to Figure 4, a shallow tray 35 is shown, having flanges 36 adapted to rest on the chair arms 23. Spring clips 37 are l secured at the ends of the tray and have bifurcated ends engageable with buttons 38 fixed to the inner edges of the chair frame 22. The tray may be instantly put in place or removedand provides effective means for preventing a child from slipping forward or falling from the chair.
From the'foregoing it will be seen that a very practical device for the purpose intended has been disclosed. Many of the objections inherent in commode chairs are efficiently overcome.
Vhile certain preferred embodiments of this device have been shown and described, it will be understood that changes in the form, arrangements, proportions, sizes and details may be made without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in th appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a portable commode, vcomprising a one piece porcelain catch tank, a flange The around the top of said tank, an opening through said top, fillets adjacent the interior angles and corners of the tank, a removable wooden seat, a recess formed in the tank top receptive of said removable seat, means for supporting said tank at its flanged portions, means for permitting horizontal With- CII drawal of said tank7 and other means for tightly closing` said tank and contents, said latter means comprising a sldable cover.
2. In a portable commode, the combination with a chair-like' structure, a seatcove1 sldably closing the top of said lower portion, of a one piece porcelainA tank, flanges circumambent of the tank top, rabbets adjacent said cover receptive o1 the flanges, arcuate corners formed nterorly of the tank, a secondary wooden seat surrounding the month of said tank, a recess formed in the top of the tank receptive of said secondary seat, means for sldably covering and uncovering tank and means whereby the tank may be rearwardly removed from the structure for cleaning..v
Signed at Newark, in the county of Essex vand State of New Jersey, this 26th day of November, A. D., M1921.
