Application filed September To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosnrH F. MAC- Gnnoon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Meadville, in the county of Crawford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Copyholders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in copy holders especially designed for attachment to typewriting machines, an object of the invention being to provide means where- 'by a copy may be supported in the most advantageous manner.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a copy holder in which the copy support is adjustable to fit note books or sheets of different sizes, so that the copy may be held in position to prevent buckling or folding and the entire face of the copy exposed.
A further object is the provision of means associated with the copy holder, whereby the leaves may be folded over the top and held against the back of said holder, so as to be out of the way of the succeeding pages or leaves.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the follow-- I n I ing novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure l is an elevation of a copy holder embodying the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a similar view on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a like view on the line 1et of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is an enlarged section on the line 55 of Figure 1.
Figure 6 is a detail perspective view of the securing clamp.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates the holder proper against which the copy is adapted to rest. This holder is of sectional formation and ineludes an upper section 11 and a lower sec tion 12, the former including a transversely disposed plate 13 which is provided along one edge with a longitudinally disposed 27, 1921. Serial N0. 503,658.
In order to secure a note book or copy sheet to the section 11, the latter is provided with a spring clamp 17 whose opposite ends are formed into loops 18 which pass through openings provided in the plate 13 and surround the edge of the plate which receives one end of the L-shaped arm 15. The upper end of the copy may thus be se curely clamped to the section 11 and the leaves may be folded over upon the back of the holder and held in such folded posi tion through the medium of a spring arm 18 which is secured to and extends inwardly from the l -shaped arm 15.
The section 12 of the holder includes a substantially Z-shaped plate 19 which is arranged to provide a lower horizontal supporting ledge 20 and an upper guide flange 21. The flange 21 is provided with spaced openings which slidingly receive and guide the fingers 16 of the section 11 which extend downwardly toward this section 12 so as to bridge the space between the two sections. The plate 12 is provided with a spring finger 22 which is adapted to engage and hold the lower end of the copy.
The sections 11 and 12 of the holder are relatively adjustable and for this purpose, the section 12 is carried by a slide 23 which is provided with an opening 24: for the passage of one end of the l.-shaped arm 15, so that the said slide may be adjusted upon this arm to regulate the size of the holder and held in adjusted position through the medium of a set screw 25.
Pivotally secured to the slide 23 is one end of an ...-shaped supporting arm 26, the latter being of sectional formation and including a section 27 and a section 28, the first mentioned section being secured to the slide 23 and pivotally adjusted with respect thereto by means of a set screw 29. The angular position of the holder may thus be regulated to suit the operator. The opposite end of the section 27 of the arm 26 is longitudinally and rotatably adjustable within one end of a sleeve 30, the latter serving as a connection between the section 27 and the section 28, the last mentioned section clamp 33. This clamp is of U-shaped to-r mation and is adapted to engage over a convenient part of a typevvritingmachine and ,to be held against accidental displacement ihroi hihe l m of. we W Th construction of; clamp 33 i may be: varied to suit theparticular make of machine to "whi'chftherholder' 'is atta'ched. k
I .1? "iii l b se n" i ien? l fib g i i i scription and the accompanying drawings, that theinvention provides ai'c'opy' holder wh h may iact t dwo t ze. of h "copy in use, being further adjustable to regulate the horizontal and vertical angular position of the holder, 'While the height 10f. the holder vvithj respect to the machine fals'o'be regulated. means ofthe connection between'the arm 26 and the clamp 133,. the holder inlay be positioned tov'vard either the front or rear of the" machine, at
the"option of theiiiser L t V The invention is susceptible of various "changes in its proportions and minor details of construct on andt'he right s herein reserved to make such changes ,"as

Havin described the invention What is claimed is 'ing -long"it'udin'ally thereof and 1 1..1A" copy "holder cemp'r'isin j -a sectional support, one of said'sections including an upper horizontally disposed member, spaced fingers extending therefrom and the other section lnc-ludlng a lower horizontally disposed substantially Z-shaped member having a horizontally disposed upper flange extendprovided With spaced openings therein to sl1d1ngly receive the spaced fingers, and a long arm c'ar- 'ried the :iipper 'mernber "alguide block err-e bath w m er n fh vi openingptherethrough to sli'ding'lyfre- "ceive the arm, means tor holding the block: and arm against relative f movement and supporting means for theholder, H
2. A copy holder comprisingfai section'al support including an'upper section and a lower section, said upp'er section comprising a horizontally disposedplate andspaced vertically disposed rods having their upper ends secured to the plate, one ofs'aid rods being relatively longfsaidi lower] section comprising a horizontally disposed substantially 'Z-shaped plateincluding an upper flange provided with spaced openings'jto slidingly receive the lower ends of the flange, an attaching 'arm and'mea'ns carried by the attaching arm for sliding and adjustble engagement With the relativelyl'ong rod.
