Description

Dec. 1924- 1,519,718
a M. BLAIR SNOWPLOW Filed June 14, 1924 [Yuri Flea? ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented Dec. 16, 1924.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SNOWPLOW.
Application filed. June 14, 1924. Serial No. 720,062.
I '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARK BLAIR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Snowplows, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in manually propelled snow plows and its primary object is to provide a device which may be readily pushed in advance of the operator to form an adequate path in snow and the like.
Another object is to produce a device with an adjustable handle whereby it may be adapted for persons of various heights.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of the plow arranged in operative position.
Figure 2 is a front elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a rear elevation.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on line 44: of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a top plan view.
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken on line 66 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the reference numeral 1 indicates the body portion of the device which is substantially semi-circular in cross section, as shown in Figure 4 of the drawings and includes a pair of spaced innermost positioned boards 2 arranged in parallelism and provided with a plurality of aligned openings 3 arranged in a superposed series. Disposed on each side of the innermost boards 2 are outer boards 4 which are arranged parallel therewith and are approximately half as wide. The ends of the boards are out approximate 1y at an angle of 45 to provide a suitable inclination of the device when being used in the capacity intended. Secured to the ends of the respective boards are semi-circular pieces which form the top and bottom 5 and 6 respectively. The top 5 is provided with spaced slots through which pass the arms 7 of the handle member 8. The arms 7 being provided with spaced openings 8 to cooperate with the openings 3 of the innermost boards, and said arms are secured to the inner boards through the medium of a nut and bolt connection 9.
Cross pieces 9 and 10 are secured to the outer edges of the respective boards adjacent the top and bottom thereof respectively. The inner longitudinal edge of the inner boards are arranged at an inclination to accommodate a metallic covering 11 which is ar ranged in semi-circular formation, as shown and fixed at its marginal edges to the top, bottom and inclined edges of the inner boards respectively. A brace member 12 is arranged in parallelism with the boards and has its ends secured to the top and bottom at the extreme inner edge thereof and engages the cover midway the inner boards to prevent damage thereto at this point. The de vice is provided with spaced runners 13 secured to the bottom 6 to facilitate its movement as will be readily apparent.
The device is simple in construction. and works exceptionally good in heavy snows. It is obvious that when the plow is pushed through the snow, the snow will be raised and caused to fall on either side thereof by the covering being curved, as shown.
It is thought from the foregoing; description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A snow plow of the character described comprising a body portion formed substantially semi-circular in cross section, a slotted top therefor, and a handle member having portions passing through the slots.
2. A snow ploW of the character described comprising spaced parallel boards having 5 inclined ends, a slotted top of se1ni-eircu1ar shape in formation and being secured to the upper inclined ends, a bottom of like shape and secured to the lower inclined ends, a covering secured to the boards, top and bot tom respectively, and a handle adjustably se- 10 cured to $01118 of said boards and runners fixed to the bottom.
MARK BLAIR.
