IMPROVEMENT IN MITTENS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 151,527, dated June 2, 1874; application filed March 24, 1874.
thereby bringing the exposed parts (that part outside of the limit of the leather or other facings) to the greatest wear and tear, as, for instance, when driving, chopping, &e. All devices or patterns heretofore have been inadequate to meet this defect. The same fault ap plies to the ends of the mittens, which 1 remedy by cutting the leather or other facing wider, and of much more desirable form, al lowing the protection against wear to come farther up over the backs of the fingers.
Figure A represents the mode of cutting the backs of the mittens or the patterns therefor.
Fig. 13 represents the patterns for cutting the palm and other parts of the mitten. Fig. 0 represents the palm and wrist connected with the back. 7 Fig. D is a view of the back of a complete mitten.
Similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts.

I am aware of the patent granted to J. L. lVhitten, November 19, 1872, No. 133,183, and am familiar with the subjectmatter thereof, and I hereby disclaim the invention of anything covered by said patent.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The mitten- patterns 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, as herein shown and described, and for the purpose as set forth.
2. A mitten constructed from the herein-described patterns, substantially as shown.
