Description

Patented Nov. 11, 1924.
umrsosrxrss PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES F. BROWER AND CHARLES A. BROWER, OF LANSING, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNORS OI ONE-THIRD TO JOHN J'. BRENNAN, OF LANSING, MICHIGAN.
DOORSTOP.
Application filed August 25, 1924. Serial No. 734,070.
county of Ingham'and State of Michigan,
have invented a new and useful Doorstop,
of which'the following is a specification.
This in Jention relates to a door or closure stop and aims to provide novel means whereby a'door or closure supplied with a stop of this character may be held against movement when secured by the device in an open position. 4
Another'important object of the invention is to provide means for locking the securing arm in its active position.
With the foregoing and other objects in "view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without.
dc arting from the spirit of the invention.
eferring to the drawing:
- Figure 1 is an elevationalview designating a device constructed in accordance with l the present invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view through the device. I
Referring to the drawing in detail, the device includes a supporting plate 5 which 85 is provided with suitable openings indicated at 6,whereby securing screws may be employed for securing the device to the door 'or closure to be heldby'the device.
As illustrated by Figure 1 of the drawing, recessed. portions 7 are provided in the plate 5 and are arranged in semi-circular formatio directly under the cam 8 which is pivotally connected with the plate 5 by means of the bolt 9 which is shown as extending through openings in the cam and plate. j
' A spring member 10 is supported between the head 11 of the bolt 9 and the out out portion 12 of the cam member, so that the bolt will be held under the tension of the spring member 10 at all times to insure a true operationof the device.
The cam member 8 is formed with an opening 13 which accommodates the coiled spring 14 that carries the ball member 15 at the outer end thereof, the ball member being designed to move into the recessed portions 7 to lock the cam member in various positions of adjustment.
In order that the cam member may be conveniently operated, an integral handle 16 is formed thereon, which has a laterally extended finger piece 17. From the foregoing it will be obvious that when the cam member is moved to its active position or to its engagement with the floor directly thereunder, the ball 15 will move into one of the recessed portions 7 of the plate 5 to lock the cam against accidental displacement.
From'the foregoing it will be seen that the use of the device will be obvious and that in order to operate the device, the cam member 8 must be moved into engagement with the supporting surface directly under;
-the same.
We claim A closure securing device including a supporting plate having a plurality of recesses formed therein, the recesses being arranged in a semi-circular line, a cam member pivotally supported on the plate, a locking ball carried by the cam member and adapted to move within the recesses to lock the cam member in various positions of adjustment, and means on the cam member to permit thev cam member to be operated.
In-testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own, wehave hereto atfixed our signatures.
JAMES F. "BROWER. CHARLES A. BROWER.
