iuui'rso STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE GAIL ALLENBAUGH, OF MANSFIELD, OHIO, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF TO THOMAS E. TAYLOR, OF MANSFIELD, OHIO.
TIMEPIECE.
To all whom it may concern: Beit known that'I, GEORGE GAIL ALLEN- BAUGH, a citizen of theUn'ited 'States, residing at Mansfield, in the county of Rich- 1 land and State of Ohio, have invented ('ertain new and useful Improvements in Timepieces, of whi'chthe following is a. specification.
My invention relates to improvements in 0- time pieces, such as watches, clocks and the like.-
p More specifically speaking, my invention relates to improvements in theface, dial and 1 time indicating mechanism of such time to provide a substitute for and an improvementon the usual stationary dial and -'hour and minutehand mechanism through the provisionfo'f an improved face having suitable minute and hour or 'zone time 1n dicaters, together "with improved movable -orrotatably' mounted concentrically arranged minute-and hour indicating dials ar- 3? ranged in cooperative relation to said min- 'u-te and hourz oneindicators and .to' each other, wherebyv the time will not only be instantly and accurately indicated in. the
w .commontimefzone or meridian, but will he meridians" thereby avoiding the necessity of fcionstantly resetting the time indicating hands in passing nto such -various; time zones or Belts.-
The improved rotatablyj'mounted hour ranged in -c opemuve relation'to each other,
as well as' with respect to said relatively ,fixed indicators of theface'of the time piece, 40
minute'nu'meralsand graduations, the improved dials :heingfadapted to replace the ordinary hour; and 7 minute hands and to be mounted on the ofdinary hour and minute arbor's ofany ordinary timepiece such'gas as a watch vor-cl'ock. i J
With the above mentioned and other ends in view, the invention-consists in the novel construction," arrangement, and combination of parts, hereinafter described, illustrated in some of its embodiments'in the accompanying' drawings and'particularly pointed out-iii the appeiided claims.
so indicated in the respective time zones 01".
'and ;to'.be providedwithsuitable hour and- .re lati lely fixed-timeindicaior or style which may be used in connection with a watch of the hunting case type.-
minute dial, detached. Fig. '5, a similar view of the hour dial, detached.
Fig. 6, a front elevation of an ordinarytime cloclr constructed in accordance with my invention andhaving its face equipped w1th time zone indicators.
, Similar numerals of reference designate like parts throughout all the figures of the drawings. v
.The case or body of the time piece may be of any suitable and convenient constructionandso likewisethe internal mechanism. Inthe present instance, I have shown my improvements applied to either a watch of the closedfface or' hunting case type, as
; shownin Fig. 1,,or if desired the improve- .ments may be; applied to'a watch of the open facetype, as'shown in Fig. 2, of the- I drawings. In Fig. 6, of the drawings I have shown my improvements incorporated ina time piece in thespecific form of a clock.
The case '1, of the watch may beof any,
Fig. i, a plan view of the face side of the r suitable and convenient form, and so like?" I VVhen app'li d to a closed 'face t ype as shown in Figs. 1 a nd.6,
of the drawings, the lidor covenlh' or" 1 as the case maybe, is provided with a suitahle [Sight open ng, preferably ofsegmental theface 1 oi "the time piece. The sight tion- 1, and. a shorter-'opening'l to expose the hour and minute dials, frespectively, as shown in Fig. 6, of the drawings.
The face of the time piece is provided :"form asshown and arranged atone side of Y I 1 as shown more clearly in Figs. 1, and 3,
of the drawings.
The hour and minute dials 2, and 3, respectively, are concentrically arranged and are provided with suitable hour and minute numerals and suitable graduations, the outer periphery of the minute dial 3, being preferably arranged immediately within the inner periphery of the outerdial 2-, and the hour and minute dials are adapted to be mounted on the usual ,hour and minute arbors 4c, and 5, respectively, of the time piece, said movable or rotatably mounted dials 2, and 3, in the present instance being provided with hub members 2 and 3 respectively, connected by arm or spoke mem bers so that annulardial or rim members are provided in the present instance in close relation to each other. i
As a means of providing suitable hour indicating zones and indicators adapted to indicate the respective time in the various zones or meridians without changing or readjusting the time indicating dials or discs, the face of the time piece may be provided with a plurality of radially off-set hour or zone indicators 1 arranged in segmental form just outside of the outer periphery of the hour dial 2, as indicated in Fig. 6 of the drawings, said zone indicators 1 being arranged at opposite sides of the main or median indicator or style 1 and the letters P, M, C and E designating respectively Pacific, Mountain7. Central, and Eastern time, respectively.
Having thus described some of the embodiments of my invention, without having attempted to set forth all the forms in which it may be made or all the modes of its use, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,
1. In a time-piece, a face provided with circumferentially spaced time zone indicators and hour and minute indicating sight openings of segmental form, and concentrically arranged juxtaposed annular hour and minute dials rotatable in said sight openings in cooperative time indicating relation to said time zone indicators and sight openings.
2. In a time-piece, a face provided with circumferentially spaced time zone indicators arranged in arcuate form and hour and minute indicating sight openings of segmental form extending along the inner pe riphery of said arcuate time zone indicators, and concentrically arranged rotatably mounted hour and minute dials arranged in said segmental sight openings and passing said time zone indicators in cooperative relation thereto and to each other.
3. In a timepiece, a time-piece body provided With a sight opening and time and zone indicators on its face side, said zone indicators being of segmental form radially off-set from said sight opening and thelatter comprising relatively long and short segmental. portions, and hour and minute dials of annular form arranged to pass said zone indicators in cooperative time indicating relation thereto and within said relatively long and short segmental portions of said sight opening.
In testimony signature.
