UNITED JOHN J. wrenrwrori, or BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN REIN-TERRETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No 151,330, dated May 26,1874; application tiled August 30, 1873.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN J. VIGHTwIo/K, otl Brooklyn, in the county ot' Kings and State ot' New York, have invented a new and uset'ul Improvement in Rein-Terrets, of which the following is a speeiiioation:
.The invention will iirst be fully described, and then pointed out in the ela-ilu.
A. is the tei-ret, made ot a single pieee of metal, (either east or malleable,) having one Or more rein oriiiees or Openings, B, according to the number ot horses in the team. In the bottom of this terret is, preferably, a swivel pin, C, whieh passes through a bed-piece,- D. The latter is screwed or riveted to the headstrap E of the bridle. The terret may, therefore, turn in either direction, and prevent the lines from tangling, besides supporting their weight and rendering' it inueh less laborious to drive four or more horses or pairs ot horses than it usually is. One of these terrets is pla-eed, as seen, on the head Ot' eaeh horse in rear of the leaders, and should there be a singlo leader, his rein would pass through the opening, F.
By means ot these terrets the labor and difficulty of driving and managing a number of spans of horses in a single team are greatly lessened. rlhe lines are supported and kept separated and prevented from tangling.
These terrets may be made very light, and, when plated or iinished, present a highly ornamental appearance.
The terret may be used without swiveling on the bed-piece, and may be attached by means ot' ears or J[langes directly to the headstrap of the bridle. I do not, therefore, oonliue myself tothe precise arrangement shown in the drawing.
Havin thus described my invention, I elaini as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The terret A B, swiveled on a pin, C, passing, through a bed-piece, attael1ed to the crown-piece ot' the bridle, as and for the purpose described.
J OHN JOSEPH VIGH'IWTIGK.
Vitnesses VILLIAM THOMAS FENTON, PHILIP BROOKEs.
