Description
UNITED STATES PATENT GFEIGE.
JOHN HEISER, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN TRUNK-FASTENERS.
specification forming pm ofretters Patent No. 151,221, dated May 26, '1874; application sied March 17, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN HEIsER, of M11- waukee, in the county of Milwaukee, in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain Improvements in Spring-Catches, of which the following is a specication: i
My invention has for its object the fastening of the tops of trunks or chests down; and consists of a spring-catch with an oblong pivothole in the catch, and a notch in its lower end to catch over a pin and hold it back when it is wanted to be held in position to open the trunk or chest.
Figure 1 is a view of the inside of the fastener, with the parts hooked together. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the catch fastened back; and Fig. 3 is a View of the outside of the fastener.
A is the top part of the fastener; B, the lower part 0r case; U, a rosette or knob fastened to the catch bya rivet passing through a slot in the case; HD, the lower and movable catch; K, a pin on which the catch D moves; F, the pin which holds the catch back; G, a pin on which the spring which actuates the catch is wound; H, spring `secured to pin G, one end of it bearing against case B and the other end against catch D; I, a projection on catch D, to prevent the spring from slipping permits the catch to slide down so as to engage the notch L in the catchD with the pin F and hold the catch back; M, the upper hook, which hooks into catch D.
The operation of this fastener is as follows: When the hook M is brought down and enters the case the spring-catch D hooks into it and holds it down. When it is necessary t0 open the trunk, take hold of the rosette C and pull catch D back and press down on the rosette, and that will carry the catch D down, and the notch L will hook onto pin F and hold the catch back. When the catch is wanted to be put in use again, take hold of the rosette and lift on it, and the catch will be lifted oft' of the pin F, and its lower end will rest on pin F.
I claim as my invention- The pivoted catch D, provided with slot E, notch L, and rosette C, in combination with pin F, spring H, and hook M, all constructed and arr. nged substantially as described, so that the catch may be held back when desired.
JOHN HEISER.
