AM PHOm-UTHMRAHI/C to. MX/osaomt; M00555) ITNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANTONY V. ROMADKA, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR TO ROMADKA BROTHERS, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN LOCKS OR CATCHES FOR TRUNKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 145,817, dated December 23, 1873; application filed August 29, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTONY V. ROMADKA, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain Improvements in Locks or Catches, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to provide a means for keeping the lids of trunks or other like articles closed, that travelers may rest assured that their baggage will not be broken ,open and the articles scattered. It is a catch or lock that will hold the cover firm, and do away with the necessity of straps to hold the trunk together.
Figure l is an inside view of the catch. Fig. 2 is a front view of same. Fig. 3 is an edge view or sidewise view. A is the upper part of the lock; B, the lower part; 0, the catch in the upper part of the lock; D, the movable catch in the lower part of the lock; E, spring which keeps the movable catch up in place; F, lever or handle by which catch D is unloosed from hooking onto catch 0; G, a notch in the lower part B, into which catch F is catched, to hold the catch D back out of the way of catch 0. This catch is self-acting, and the trunk closes, and the lid is held down without any trouble; and whenever it is necessary to open it, take hold of lever or latchF and raise it up, and push it back into notch G, which will hold it out of the way.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a trunk-fastening device, the lever or handle F, having the catch D, in combination with the catch 0 and spring E, constructed and operating substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
ANTONY V. ROMADKA.
