Description

s. ZIMMERMAN.
MONEY-DRAWER.
Patented Dec.19, 1876. zzgl 'THE GRAPHIC OOJLY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SOLOMON ZIMMERMAN, OF HOUTZDALE, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN MONEY-DRAWERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 185,618, dated December 19,1876; application filed December 1, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SOLOMON ZIMMERMAN, of Houtzdale, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Safety-Drawers for Money, Jewelry, and other valuables, of which the following is a clear, full, and eX- act description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a vertical longitudinal section. Fig. 2 is a view ofthe rear, with latch in. dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a front view, with a portion'of the mechanism shown in dotted lines.
My invention relates to a secret drawer for the safe-keeping of money, jewelry, and other articles of special value; and it consists in the combination of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
To enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the exact manner in which I have carried it out.
In the drawing, A represents a casing, prov vided with the ordinary drawer B, and having an interior drawer, O, each drawer sliding in independent grooves b b in the sides of the casing.
The exterior or front drawer B is provided with the usual knob as a handle, and has the catch D secured to its bottom and pivoted at d. When the front end e of the catch is pressed down, the rear endis elevated, so as to catch the rear ofthe interior or secret drawer G, and cause it to draw out with the outer or front drawer B.
When it is desired to open only the front drawer, the front end e of the catch is raised, and secured in position by the sliding bolt E, attached t0 the lower part of the front of the drawer.
On the inner side ofthe back of the casing is secured the secret latch F, so placed as to fall into the catch f, secured to the rear of the secret drawer. By this means the secret drawer is securely held in position within the casing, and the front drawer operates independently of it. But when the front end e of the catch D is released from the sliding bolt E and is pressed down, the rear end of the catch raises the secret latch F ont ot' the catch f, and engages with the lower edge of the secret drawer, and causes it to move with the front drawer as it is drawn from the casing.
Through the top of the casing I make a slit or opening, through which articles may be readily dropped into the secret drawer, and over this I slide a false top, G, of' any thin material, so as to conceal the opening when not in use.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new is- The drawer B, provided with the pivoted catch D and locking-holt E, in combination with the drawer G, provided with the catchf and the secret latch F, all constructed to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
SOLOMON ZIMMERMAN.
