Be it known that I, .Josnrr-r RIFKIN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at 364i? Broadway, New York city, New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Displa Boxes, of which the following is a speci cation.

This invention relates to jewel display boxes and has for its object to provide a body and cover connected to the ends of connecting links or stays, so that the cover may be moved relatively of the body to a substantial upright position, while the body is suspended at one end by the links to as sume a slight forward inclined position.

The invention is illustratively exemplified in the accompanying drawing, in which, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my im proved case in display position, and Figure 2 a is a perspective view of the same in closed position.

Referring to the drawing, 10 designates the body of the box and 11 the cover therefor. Both body and cover may be substantially the same construction, as shown. with suitable lining material 12 disposed on the inside. The body 10 and cover 11 comprise sides 13 and ends 14, said sides being upright walls carried by the bottom and top portions.

The body 10 and cover 11 are linked together by means of stays or links 15 comprising straight steel pieces pivoted at their ends to the ends li of the two portions of the box. The ends of both links pivoted to the ends 14 of the body are pivoted about suitable studs 16 disposed axially of each other at points on the ends 13 closely adjacent the rear wall or side 13, while the other ends of the links are pivoted directly Serial No. 612,562.

on the longitudinal axis of the cover 11 by means of suitable pivot members 17 disposed axially of each other on the ends 1 1.

To manipulate the box to place it in dis play position it is necessary to simply hold to body 10 while the cover 11 is swung with the links 15, which move about their pivots 16 and 17, until the cover has assumed an upright position which is-slightly inclined towards the rear thereof, and the rear end of the body has been raised by the links. The links are substantially shorter than the distance measured by one half the length of the ends 14, in which case the rear side of the body 10 will abut the inside of the cover 11 to form a fulcrum below the center of the pivots 17 This construction provides a three point or triangular lock to hold the body suspended at an incline and the cover erect, as shown.

What I claim is:

A display box, comprising similar body and cover sections. and links pivoted at opposite ends to the body and cover, the pivot on the body being disposed in the ends thereof adjacent the rear side and the pivot on the cover being disposed in the ends and midway of their length, and in which the said links are of a length substantially less than the distance measured by one-half the length of the said ends, whereby, when the cover is in upright position the rear side of the body will be suspended against the inside of the cover and the body will assume an inclined position with respect to the cover, substantially as described.
