Description

Patented Sept. Z3, 1924.
uNlTED STATES OTTO Gr. HUBER, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
COMBTNATION VACUUM WINDOW SNAI.
Application led. February 5, 1923. Serial No. 617,056.
To all ro/0m t may concern.:
Be it known that I, OTTO G. HUBER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented new and useful lmprovements in Combination Vacuum ViTindov-J Snaps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in display devices and has for an object the provision of means whereby various articles, such as merchandise, display cards and the like may be removably supported upon window glass or other highly polished surfaces, without niarring either the surface or the article.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a vacuum attached bracket having novel means for yieldingly forcing the same away'from its support, so as to securely anchor the same by increasing the suction dripping means, together with removable means for supporting articles from the bracket.
lWith the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
ln the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the invention attached to a window glass, the glass being shown in section.
Figure 2 is a central vertical sectional View through the device.
Figure 8 is an elevat-ion at right angles to Figure 1 with the article supporting arm removed.
Figure l is a` top plan view of the saine.
Figure 5 is a transverse sectional view.`
Figure 6 is a detail view of one of the removable hangers or arms.
4Figure 7 is a section view of a modified form of a support attaching member.
Referring in detail to the drawings. wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a section of a window glass to which the invention is applied. The invention comprises a bracket which includes an elongated body 11 which is substantially U- shaped in transverse section and which carries at each end a cylinder 12. Secured within the body 10 is a block 13 preferably formed of rubber, the said block carrying a substantially cup-shaped rubber member' 1t which is designed to provide vacuum securing means, as will be readily understood.
One end of each of the cylinders 12 is provided with a restricted opening through which extends a shank 15 and secured to the outer ends of these shanks are knurled heads 16 which are adapted to provide contact members upon opposite sides of the cup 14. The inner ends of the shanks are also provided with heads 11' which act as stops to limit the outward movement of the shanks and provide means for engagementwith one end of springs 18 which are located within the cylinders 12 and which act to yieldingly force the Shanks outward.
Tn' attaching the'device to a window or other polished surface, the cup 14- is first moistened and then pressed` against the surface, the spring pressed heads 16 yielding under this pressure so that a vacuum will be provided between the Cup and surface to which it is attached. The knurled head 16 will engage the attaching surface and act to increase the suction of the cup and also prevent any tendency of the bracket to move laterally.
The bracket is designed to support various articles such as merchandise or display cards and for this purpose is provided with a hook 18. In addition, the bracket is provided with a socket 19 at the upper end of which is a slot 20. This soc ret is adapted to removably receive an angularly disposed end 21 of a hanger arm 22, whose opposite end may be provided with oppositely disposed arms 23 having upwardly bent extremities 211 at opposite ends thereof. This hanger arm which is illustrated in Figures 1, 2 and 3 of the drawings is, as stated, removable from the bracket, so that the hanger arm illustrated in Figure 6 of the drawing` may be substituted. The upper end of the hanger arms will lie within the slot at the upper end of the socket 19 so as to prevent pivotal movement of the hanger arms.
Tn Figure 7 of the drawings there is illustrated a slightly modified construction, in which the knurlcd heads 16 are replaced by a disk 160 and this disk carries a rubber or other cushion 25 which is adapted to engage the attaching surface for the purpose above mentioned and which will increase the yielding engagement afforded by the spring 18 and in addition, will prevent scratching or otherwise marring the surface.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form,- proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention what is claimed is 1. A device of the character described comprising a substantially-U-shaped bracket, a cylinder carried at each end of said bracket, ta. resilientblock secured withinv the U-shapedbracket and having` cup-shaped: member madeintegrally with and protrudingl from said resilient'block, shanks extending within and without restricted openings in said cylinders and having knurledy heads attached to their outer endsand heads to their innerends respectively, springs mounted within said cylindersand bearing against saidheads, a hook extending downwardly from one of said cylinders, la socket mounted diamct-rically vopposite said resilient block upon said bracketand having al longitudinal slot therein, and a hanger arm having' its angular disposed. upper portion received in` said slot, and the lower portion.thereot'having upwardly bent extremities. y
2. A device of the character described comprising` a body, a substantially U-shaped bracket,a cylinder carried at either end of said bracket respectively, a resilient block secured-within the body portion and hava substantially said bracket, a socket mounted diametrically opposite said resilient block upon said bracket and having,T a longitudinal slot therein, `a hanger arm having its angularly disposed upper portion received Within .sa-id slot, and the lower portion thereof having:r npwardly bent extremities.
3. .ai device of the class described comprising in combination, a bracket,a compressiblc substantially cup-shaped member carried thereby to provide vacuum attaching means, a cylinder at each end of the bracket, a shank extending through one of the ends of each cylinder, contact heads carried at the outer ends of the Shanks, springs located within the cylinders and engaging the inner ends of the Shanks to force the latter outwardly and article supporting means carried by the bracket.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
