MILK BOTTLE HOLDER.
APPLICATION HLED AUG. 13, 1917.

MILK-BOTTLE HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Iatent.
Application filed August 13, 1917. Serial No. 186,033.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLYDE L. CARTRE, a citizen of the United State, and resident of Aurora, in the county of Kane and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Milk-Bottle Hplders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in holders and more particularly to a holding device which is adapted to receive a milk bottle therein, to securely lock the same, and prevent its theft after its delivery, until time it is removed by the owner. f
A further objectof the invention is to provide a milk bottle holding device of this character adapted to be secured to the outer side of a door or the like, and provided with means whereby the bottle may be securely locked in. position, and can only be released by a locking pin that is operable from the inner side of the door. The device is normally in open position, but when a bottle has been placed therein, and the slidable locking cap positioned down over the top of the same, it will be impossible to release the bottle until the top releasing means operable from the inner side of the door have been withdrawn, so as to allow the locking cap to be raised.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is easily and simply constructed, inexpensive to manufacture, and one which will be very eflicient in operation.
With these and numerous other objects in view, my invention consists of the novel fea-' tures of construction, combination and arrangement of arts which will be herein referred to-an more particularly pointed out in the specification and claims.
In the accompanyin drawings fl Figure 1 is a detai perspective View of the device applied to "a door or the like, and
Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the posed support 2,- which forms a casing, and
" said-support having a laterally'projecting as to allow said movement.
lip 3 on the lower edge thereof .5ecured on the upper surface of the lip '3-."is,a' ;$ocket member -l, adapted to receive ii-projecting shank 5 on the lower surface of a bottle receiving base 6. The base 6 is provided with an upwardly projecting annular flange, and is of such size as to receive the conventional type of milk bottle therein. The projecting shank 5, and the socket member -1 are externally and internally threaded correspondingly, so that the base 6 which is ordinarily stationary is adapted to be removed. The supporting casing 2 is provided wit a vertical longitudinally extending passage 7th erein, that extends from adjacent thejtop downwardly along the same, and said pas- Patented Ewell-25,1919;
sage is provided with a pair of com1nunicat-' ing upper and lower openings 8 and 9 respectively, for a purpose to be hereinafter more fully described. A recess 10 is provided adjacent the upper end of the passage Tadapted to receive a coil spring. 11 therein that cooperates with the locking means of the device in the manner to be hereinafter more fully described.
The locking means employed in this type of bottle holder includes a locking cap 12 that is disposed in alinement with the base 6, and which is provided with a projecting portion 13 that extends through the opening S, and which has a downwardly extending arm 14 slidably positioned within the passage 7 in the support 2. The inner side of the arm 14 has a rack 15 formed thereon, and secured to the opposite side or outer side of said arm adjacent the bottom thereof is abottle holding clip 16 formed of a pair of hingedly connected arms, that are adapted ment of the said arm the clip will be engaged accordingly. The opening 9 through which the arm is'projected is elongated, so
enlarged recess 20 adjacent the inner side A spring 1 and hence into engagement with the rack 15 the like, and when the bottle is placed in of the support 9. The coil spring 19 will tend to force the pin 18 to the passage 7,
on the arm 14.
In operation when the various parts of the device are'disposed as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, and a milk bottle is placed on the base 6, the body portion of said bottle will be engaged by the spring arms of the clip 16, and the top of the bottle will be disposed directly beneath the movable locking cap 12. Upon moving the cap downwardly,
the arm 14 will slide correspondingly along the passage 7, until the-cap engages the top of the bottle. Owing to the fact that the locking pin 15'is spring pressed, the inner end thereof will slide over the rack but will prevent the arm 14 from moving upwardly until the pin is withdrawn. This Will se curely lock the cap 12 on the top of the bot- .tle, and prevent theremoval of the said bottle. The coil spring 11 facilitates the movement of the arm 14: in the passage 7, when the same is moved down to engagement with the top of the bottle.
The operation of this type of milk bottle -holder will prevent the theft of the milk between the time it is delivered, and collected by the user. The device is adapted to be applied to the outer sideof a door or position, the locking cap moves down over the tog of the same, the (gap will be automatica ly locked, and cannot be lifted until the pin '17 is released by withdrawing the same, the handle of said pin being posi-.
tioned on the inner side of the door, and hence being only accessible to the user.
From the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying'drawings, it is thought that a clear and comprehensive understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of my invention may be had, and while I have shown and described the device as embodying a specific structure,
I desire that it be understood that such changes may be made in said structure as do not depart from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having fully described my inventlon,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A milk bottle holder of the classdee. scribed including a bottle receiving base, a locking member disposed above said base and in alinement therewith, said member having-a spaced depending slidably mounted arm, a bottle engaging clip carried thereby, a rack on said arm, and'a spring pressed locking pin adapted to normally engage said rack.
2. A milk bottle holder including a vertilower end of the body portion provided with a screw threaded socket, a'cup carrying a screw threaded shank received in the socket, an angle arm having one part slidab'le in said way and formed with a serrated edge, a
cap carried on the outer end of the angle arm,
in vertical alinement with said cup, spring means engaged with a portion of the angle arm for placing the same under pressure, a
spring clip secured to the angle arm eXtend ing laterally from the body portion, and a catch slidable in the body portion engageable with the serrated edge of the angle arm.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature hereto.
