UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WOLF SCHEINMAN, OF BALTIMORE, IVIARYLAND, ASSIGNOB.- OF ONE-THIRD TO LOUIS S. GOLDBLOOM AND ONE-THIRD TO JOSEPH H. BEARMAN, BOTH F BALTIMORE,
MARYLAND.
Application filed January To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, VVoLr SCHEINMAN, al citizen of the United State-s, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment Hangers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as vwill enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to maire and use the same.
My invention relates to garment hangers.
Among the objects of my invention are :M
To provide a garment hanger so constructed and arranged that garments are eiiiciently retained thereon.
To provide a garment hanger so constructed and arranged that it may he used for garments of various sizes and yet such garments are efficiently retained thereon.
My invention has special reference to garnent hangers of the hanging type in which the arm supporting the garments is curved. rlhis type of hanger is well suited for the displaying of garments inasmuch as the curved support-ing arm serves to retain the shape of the garments, but it has an inherent disadvantage in that certain types of garments, such as those made of silla, readily slip therefrom.
Garment hangers whose ends are turned upwardly have been provided in order to overcome this difficulty, but the upwardly turned ends tend to ruin the shape of the garn'ient.
My invention comprehends the best fea tures of these two types of hangers in that it combines the curved supporting arm with means to prevent the garment from slipping.
These and further objects ofmy invention will be set forth in the following speci-- [ication, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the novel means by which said objects are effectuated will be definitely pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved garment hanger.
.F ig. 2 is a view looking in the direction of the arrow 2 in Fig. l.
In the drawings 10 represents a curved garment supporting GARD/[ENT HANGER.
5, 1924. Serial No. 684,532.
arm provided With the usual hook 11 for suspending the hanger in any convenient location. The arm 10 is further provided with a slot 12 on each side of the hook 11.
A threaded pin 13 provided with a head 141 for coacting with the under surface 18a of the arm 1() slides freely within the slot 12, and a thumb nut 15 is threaded on said pin.
The nut 15 may be made in any desired shape, but is preferably formed with the enlarged head 16 as shown in Fig. 1 in order to better retain the garment on the hanger and is further provided with a portion 17 fior co-acting with the top surface 18 of the arm 10.
The garment having been placed on the arm 10, the nuts 15 are unscrewed sutiiciently to permit the pins 13 to be moved along the slots 12 until said nuts contact with the garment, after which the nuts 15 are screwed tight on the surface 18, thus locking the pins 13 and the nuts 15 in position.
It will be seen, therefore, that my improved hanger comprehends not only a curved arm which maintains the shape of the garment, but is also provided with means for retaining said garment in place.
While I have shown one preferred form of my invention, it is to be understood that the disclosure is for the purpose of illustration only and in nowise to limit my invention to the exact elements and combinations thereof shown, for many changes may be made in the same without departing from the spirit of my invention.
I claim :m
In a garment hanger, the combination with an arm provided with suspending means, and a slot extending vertically through said arm on each side of said means, of means for retaining garments of various sizes in position on said arm, consisting of a pin freely slidable in each of said slots and extending above said arm.
In testimony whereof, I aiiX my signature.
WOLF SCHEINMAN.
