Sept. 9
I T. znnooowsm FILE- SHEATH Original Filed Nov. 25, 1922 72 Zd/vdowaici 1 Emma,
gwpantoz Patented Sept. 16, 1924.
r PF! c E TAIDEUSZ ZDRODOWSKI, 0F PITTSTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
Originalapplication filed November 23, 1922, Serial No. 602,908. Divided and this application filed October 30, 1923.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TADEUSZ Znnonowsnr, a citizen of Poland, residing at Pittston, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsyl- Vania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in File Sheaths, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in file sheaths and has particular reference to a casing of elongated form for housing the blade of a file to protect the file teeth during shipment. This application is a division of my copending application Serial No. 602,908, filed November 23, 1922, upon file sheaths.
The primary object of the inventionis to provide a sheath for files wherein the sheath casing is provided with a fabric lining with a hinged section carried by the casing to facilitate positioning of the lining therein.
lWith the above and other objects in view as the nature of the invention is better under stood, the same consists of the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described. shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In the drawing, wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Figure l is a perspective view of a file sheath constructed in accordance with the present invention, the file being shown in position therein,
Figure 2 is a cross-sectional view taken on line IIII of Fig. 1 showing the hinged section of the sheathing,
Figure 3 is a fragmentary top plan view, and
Figure 4 is. a fragmentary perspective view of the open end of the sheath with the hinged section moved to open position.
In the drawing. wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 1 designates the bottom wall of a file sheath casing which is further provided with integral end walls 2 and 3 and an integral upper wall section 4, the sheath being preferably constructed of sheet metal and bent into the Serial No. 671,808.
cross-sectional formation shown in Fig. 2, one end being closed and the other end open as shown in Figs. 1 and 4 for the reception of the file F.
The upper wall section 5 has one edge thereof flanged to provide an end wall section 3? adjacent the lower end wall 3, said end wall sections 3 and 3* being longitudinally hinged as at 6 and clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The connection between the ad acent edges of the upper wall sections 4 and 5 includes struok-out spring fingers 7 carried by the free edge of the wall section 4 that are adapted to be received in openings 8 formed in the adjacent freeedge of the upper wall section 5, the spring fingers 7 resiliently retaining the hinged cover section 5 in the closed position shown in Fig. 2.
A fabric lining 9 is provided for the sheath, one edge thereof being engaged by spurs 10 carried by the free edge of the cover section 4: and completely covering the inner face of the sheath, the hinged cover section 5 being primarily provided to peri mit the proper positioning of the lining 9 within the sheath, while the file F is positioned therein by being slid through the open I end thereof.
While there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the present invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is In a file sheath, an elongated sheathcasing having one end open and the other end closed, said sheath casing consisting of a bottom wall, integral end walls, and an in tegral upper wall section, a hinged upper wall section carried by one of the end walls of the casing, a fabric lining for the casing secured at one longitudinal edge to the free edge of the integral upper wall section by means of spurs carried by said wall section, and resilient devices for retaining the hinged section in closed position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
TADEUSZ ZDRODOWSKI.
