Be it known that I,- l VILLIAM FRnnoKs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Steamboat Rock, in the county of Hardin and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Filler Devices for Egg Cases or Grates, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to a filler device for an egg case or crate, and the object of the invention is the construction of a simple and efficient filler device, formed from rubber material, and which will be hard to separate when assembled.

Another object of the invention is the construction of the interlocking sections, which are provided with efficient interlocking features as hereinafter specifically described.

WVith the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention comprises certain'novel combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the drawings:

Figure 1 isa top plan View of a filler device constructed in accordance with the present invention, while Figure 2 is a side view of the same.

Figure 3 is a section, taken on line 3-3, Fig. 1, and looking in the direction of the arrows.

Figure 4 is a fragmentary view, in side elevation, of one of the surrounding sections.

Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates the surrounding sections of my device, while 2 are the interlacing sections. I preferably form the device so that it may hold thirty-six eggs in a crate or case. It will be obvious that as many of these devices may be employed as the'operator desires, and I preferably form the sections of the device from strips of rubber or other suitable yielding material, so as to increase the efliciency of the device in preventing the eggs from being broken during handling or shipment.

Each surrounding section is provided with I preferably of rubber,

a plurality of elongated openings 3, and the upper and lower ends of the open ings S are formed sets of V-shaped notches at for the purpose hereinafter described.

Each interlacing section 2 is provided with vertically aligned sets of cutout portions 5. Each cutout portion 5 is provided with a pair of flat bevelled edges 6,, that allow the interlacing section 2 to more read ily pass through the opening 3 of section 1, and these flat bevelled edges 6 merge at their inner ends in double V-shaped notch 7, which notch 7 fits into the V-shaped notches at on the surrounding section, as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, thereby increasing the interlocking action of the sections, whereby a more stable device is produced.

By reason of the sections being formed can be threaded or laced through the elongated openings 3 of the surrounding sections and the notched portions readily accommodate themselves toeach other, whereby the assembling of the device is easily accomplished.

It is a known fact that rubber affords a very yielding surface and as I preferably form my filler device of rubber material the precentage of eggs broken in handling or in transit is reduced to a minimum where my device is used.

While I have described the preferred embodiment of my invention, and have illus trated the same in the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates, during the extensive manufacture of the same and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such alterations or changes as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.

Vhat I claim is:

1. A filler of the character described comprising strips extending parallel to each and efficient filling the interlacing sections positioned in the slots of the first mentioned strips, the second mentioned strips being bevelled along the edges of the V-shaped notches to provide converging faces fitting into the xi-shaped notches of the first mentioned strips and contacting With the converging "faces thereof.
